Uber Will Allow Women Customers to Request Women Drivers

Uber is taking a major step in prioritizing riders’ safety.

Indeed, the well-known ride-sharing company unveiled their Women’s Choice Option, enabling female clients to pair up with female drivers during their trips when making a booking.

The company’s vice president of operations for the U.S. and Canada, Camiel Irving, stated in a July 23 declaration that by enhancing our platform with features tailored to women’s needs, we are improving it for everyone as a whole. In response to feedback from female riders and drivers across the U.S., they have expressed a preference for the option to be paired with other women during trips. The company is now implementing additional options to empower them further in customizing their riding and driving experiences.

In the coming weeks, Uber’s new program will be introduced across Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Detroit. This initiative isn’t solely focused on rider preferences; it also caters to women drivers who can now specifically request trips with female passengers, even during peak earning hours such as evenings. For passengers, this feature can be accessed by adjusting their settings within the Uber app.

The firm pointed out that although a rider’s preferred pairing isn’t always possible, this new feature enhances the likelihood of matching female riders with one another during their journey.

This software represents an advanced form of Uber’s Women Rider Preference, initially introduced in Saudi Arabia in 2019, a year following the country granting women the legal right to drive. Since then, this feature has been extended to over 40 countries, including Germany and France, and Uber is now offering it to their riders worldwide.

Irving clarified that since most drivers are male, our team has focused on making this feature functional globally. Consequently, we’re pioneering an innovation: introducing more dependable features designed specifically for female riders, enabling them to connect with other women drivers.

And their efforts to protect women passengers and drivers doesn’t end at this feature.

In my role as a lifestyle expert, I’m thrilled to share that our journey of enhancing preferences, particularly those of women, is expanding nationwide. We’re committed to this expansion not just by setting foot in new territories, but also by consistently refining the user experience through education, strategic partnerships, and innovative features.
