Ubisoft is buying the Amazon Games Montreal team and their unreleased multiplayer game, March of Giants. The deal, expected to be finalized by December 16th, also includes marketing support from Amazon on Twitch to help promote March of Giants.
According to Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot, March of Giants has the potential to offer players something new and exciting, and help Ubisoft succeed in the competitive gaming landscape. He expressed enthusiasm about welcoming back veteran team members like Alexandre and Xavier, highlighting the team’s creativity and skill as a perfect fit for Ubisoft’s goal of creating innovative games. Ubisoft plans to fully support the team as they develop this promising new game franchise.
This purchase also brings Xavier Marquis, who previously led creative direction on Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege, back to Ubisoft. He’s currently the creative director for March of Giants.
Marquis said he’s thrilled to be back at Ubisoft, calling it a natural fit after previously creating some of his best work there. He’s especially excited to continue developing March of Giants with Ubisoft’s support, believing they can help the game reach its full potential.
Alexandre Parizeau, a lead producer on March of Giants, expressed gratitude to Amazon for their early support. He highlighted that the game’s initial closed alpha test was a promising step. Now, with Ubisoft joining the project, the team is focused on developing March of Giants into a long-lasting and successful multiplayer online battle arena game.
Here is an overview of the game and team, via Amazon Games:
March of Giants is a brand-new multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) game that combines strategic lane fighting, skillful gameplay, and teamwork. It’s quickly gained a lot of positive attention from players and content creators who love its unique visual style, complex strategies, and emphasis on coordinated team efforts.
Multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) games are still incredibly popular, with hundreds of millions of players worldwide and huge potential for growth. Experts predict the MOBA market will continue to expand throughout the next decade, potentially doubling in revenue by 2030. Ubisoft believes their new game, March of Giants, offers a fresh take on the genre, aiming to appeal to both existing MOBA fans and new players, and ultimately become a thriving competitive game. Early testing showed strong positive feedback, with 98% of closed alpha participants saying March of Giants brings a unique experience to the genre.
The team behind March of Giants is made up of industry veterans, including Xavier Marquis, the creative director, and Alexandre Parizeau, who leads production. Both previously worked at Ubisoft: Xavier was the original creative director for Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege, and Alexandre used to manage Ubisoft Toronto, overseeing large-scale game development. Their experience and the skills of the March of Giants team will be a valuable asset to Ubisoft in creating popular competitive and ongoing games.
