Ubisoft Announces Tencent Becoming Minority Stakeholder in Vantage Studios is “Imminent”

Ubisoft’s recent financial report confirms that the agreement with Tencent – where Tencent is taking a minority stake in Vantage Studios – is progressing as planned and all requirements have been met. The report reiterates the €1.16 billion deal will help Vantage Studios grow faster.

I’m really excited to hear that the deal with Tencent is almost done! Ubisoft just announced in their latest report that everything’s lined up and it should be finalized in the next few days. This €1.16 billion investment is going to be a huge relief for Ubisoft financially, and they’re planning to use it to help their new Vantage Studios grow their games. Plus, it’ll give them some extra funds for other projects and help with the changes they’re making to the company overall. It sounds like a really positive step forward!

I was reading the report, and Ubisoft’s CEO, Yves Guillemot, said that Vantage studios is really important for what Ubisoft is planning for the future. He also called the deal with Tencent a huge step forward for the company, explaining that the €1.16 billion it brought in has put them in a much stronger position.

According to Guillemot, this deal is a major step forward for Ubisoft, providing €1.16 billion in cash to improve our finances and reduce debt as planned. It will also allow Vantage Studios to quickly expand our three biggest game franchises with a focused leadership team.

Vantage Studios is central to our company’s shift to a new way of working, organized around independent Creative Houses. We expect to have a complete plan for this new structure by the end of the year. These Creative Houses will operate like mini-businesses – they’ll be self-sufficient, streamlined, focused on results, and fully responsible for their own success, with dedicated leaders, unique creative approaches, and clear plans for the future.

Guillemot also discussed how Ubisoft’s games had been doing throughout the year. He mentioned that while Rainbow Six Siege was facing tougher competition in the fast-paced shooter market, other titles like the Assassin’s Creed series and The Division 2 performed well.

This quarter, our game results were mixed. While Rainbow Six Siege saw a slight dip as it adapts to the competitive FPS market, other titles performed very well. The Assassin’s Creed series did better than we expected, showing it continues to attract and hold players’ interest. The Division 2 also remained strong, boosted by the success of its Battle for Brooklyn expansion – in fact, first-half sales already surpassed last year’s full-year numbers, according to Guillemot.

Earlier this year, Ubisoft revealed the name of its new studio, Vantage Studios. In October, they also announced that Vantage Studios would be developing content for some of Ubisoft’s most popular games, including Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Rainbow Six. Led by co-CEOs Charlie Guillemot and Christophe Derennes, the studio oversees teams in Montréal, Quebec, Sherbrooke, Saguenay, Barcelona, and Sofia.
