Ubisoft Confirms 1,500 Lay-Offs Over Last 12 Months Part of Cost Reduction in Latest Earnings Report

So, I was checking out Ubisoft’s latest earnings report, and while there’s a lot of good news, it also confirmed they’re still cutting costs. Basically, their plan to do that is going as expected, and sadly, that means they’ve had to let go of around 1,500 people in the last year. It’s tough to see, but that’s what the report said.

Okay, so things have been a little rough at the company lately. Over the past year, about 1,500 people lost their jobs, and since the end of March this year, around 700 more were let go. The big goal was to cut costs by €200 million by the end of 2026 compared to 2023, and honestly, we hit that target early – we actually did it by the end of 2025! It’s good news, I guess, because we’re ahead of schedule and even exceeded the initial goal a bit.

Ubisoft aims to cut costs by another €100 million by the end of fiscal year 2027, compared to its spending in fiscal year 2025.

With Ubisoft recently undergoing layoffs, CEO Yves Guillemot has discussed the company’s plans to significantly invest in generative AI. He described the technology as a major shift for the gaming industry, comparable to the move to 3D graphics, and confirmed that Ubisoft’s teams are already exploring and using AI in their work.

According to Game File, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot believes generative AI is transforming the gaming industry in a way comparable to the move to 3D graphics. He stated that Ubisoft is making significant progress in using this technology to create valuable improvements for both players and its internal teams, and that the company is well-positioned to be a leader in this area.

We’re making great strides in bringing exciting, AI-powered features to players, following up on our announcements about more realistic in-game characters earlier this year. We’ve moved beyond initial testing and are now getting these features into the game, and we plan to reveal more details before the end of the year.

Our teams in every studio and office are now using this new technology and finding innovative ways to improve game development, art, and the overall quality of our games.

Next year, the company plans to release four games. These include mobile versions of Rainbow Six Siege and The Division Resurgence. Players on PC and consoles can anticipate the remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, along with one more unannounced game.

Although Ubisoft hasn’t officially said anything, many believe their next major game will be a remake of Splinter Cell, which has been in the works for a while. According to gaming insider Mike Straw, the remake is currently planned for release sometime in the latter half of 2026.

The upcoming remake of Splinter Cell is looking promising based on what’s been shown, and development is progressing well. The latest update indicated a planned release sometime in the second half of 2026.
