It’s possible that one of Ubisoft’s less active franchises might resurface, as suggested in a tweet on Monday commemorating the 30th anniversary of Rayman.
Loic Gounon, a brand producer at Ubicoft Montpellier, stated, “As we’ve mentioned before, a highly skilled team from Ubisoft Montpellier and Ubisoft Milan are collaborating on the future of Rayman.”
He further explained, “While you might not hear from us right away, take comfort in knowing that Rayman is in capable hands.”
On Tuesday, Insider Gaming provided additional details about this potential return. According to their report, Ubisoft is currently developing a remake of Rayman, with the understanding that it will be released towards the end of 2026 (codenamed Steambot). If this remake proves successful, there appears to be enthusiasm within Ubisoft for creating a new Rayman 4.
Rayman was once a highlight of Ubisoft’s portfolio
As a researcher delving into the world of video games, I can’t help but marvel at the enduring charm of Rayman, a character who first graced our screens way back in 1995. Players were captivated by the game’s whimsical aesthetic and engaging platforming mechanics.
Over the years that followed, more titles were added to the series, with Rayman Legends, launched in 2013, standing as the most recent mainline entry. Not only was it well-received critically, but it also proved to be a commercial success, selling over 4 million copies by 2019.
However, it’s important to note that the Rayman universe expanded beyond its original boundaries with the introduction of the Rabbids spinoff titles. These spinoffs, in turn, gained such popularity that they surpassed their progenitor in terms of new games released.
This surge in popularity led to an exciting crossover event, with the Rabbids making their way into Nintendo’s Mario universe through Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle in 2017, and more recently, Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope in 2022.
What’s next for Ubisoft?

If reports are true, the Assassin’s Creed remake could be released towards the end of next year, providing Ubisoft with a clear direction for their upcoming projects since much of their future portfolio is currently unclear.
Earlier in the year, the release of Assassin’s Creed Shadows attracted over 5 million players by July.
Ubisoft’s next mainline Assassin’s Creed game, codenamed Hexe, promises a fresh experience compared to Shadows and other major role-playing games that have dominated the series in recent years.
In addition, Ubisoft is also developing remakes of older Assassin’s Creed games, with one of these rumored to be a revisit of the 2013 fan-favorite, Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag. The initial release date for this remake was scheduled for before the end of 2025; however, as I write this on September 2, there has been no official announcement, suggesting that this may no longer be the case.
Ubisoft is also confirmed to be developing The Division 3 and a new installment in both the Far Cry and Ghost Recon franchises.

It’s likely that we’ll hear good news from Ubisoft sooner rather than later, as the company has faced numerous challenges over the past few years, including canceling several games and shutting down various studios. Recently, they made a new arrangement with Tencent, forming a new subsidiary that includes Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six.
My coworker Zachary Boddy reviewed Assassin’s Creed Shadows, set in Medieval Japan, and found it to be a strong contender for game of the year in 2025. He was amazed that he managed to stay engaged with the game for over 60 hours, let alone over 100. While Assassin’s Creed Shadows isn’t flawless, Zachary still enjoys it a lot.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows is currently available on Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC (through Epic Games Store, Ubisoft, and Steam), PlayStation 5, and macOS.
