These days, you can find a multitude of Pokemon trading cards on eBay, with sellers offering everything from unopened boxes to graded ones. Many of these are valuable cards from recent releases or extremely rare vintage ones. Lately, a particular listing has piqued the interest of Pokemon enthusiasts due to its exceptionally scarce contents. Notably, seasoned Pokemon collector David Persin recently listed his entire collection of Pokemon World Championships Trophy cards on eBay, priced at an astounding $9 million.
This listing showcases photos of numerous unique Pokemon Championship Trophy Cards spanning over a decade. Remarkably, Persin’s collection encompasses every trophy card that has been released since 2004 up until 2024. Intriguingly, as Persin himself puts it, his card collection is the “most comprehensive English-language Pokemon card collection globally.” Interestingly, Persin not only explains how he gathered this impressive collection, but also shares the reason behind its current sale.
New 9m+ collection hitting EBay

From 2006 to 2019, I, an ardent Pokémon enthusiast, had the privilege of attending every World Championships event. During these years, I often purchased the tournament trophy cards directly from the victorious trainers. These championship trophy cards are exclusive prizes awarded annually, making them some of the scarcest Pokémon cards in circulation. Gathering a collection like mine is truly a spectacle to behold. The majority of these trainer cards have less than 3-12 copies in existence, and that’s only if their original owners managed to keep them pristine over the years.
If you find $9 million to be a substantial amount, take a look at the prices some individual cards are currently listed for. For instance, a PSA10 graded card from the 2024 championships is now priced at an astonishing $49,000! To put that into perspective, a 2015 Trophy Card with a PSA 9 grade previously sold for an impressive $200,000. It’s evident that the scarcity of these cards can indeed lead to extraordinary prices.
Pokemon Fans Think Persin’s Impressive Collection Belongs in a Museum
As stated by Persin, he’s choosing to sell his Pokemon cards because he wishes to devote more time to his children and grandchildren. Unfortunately, none of his extended family shares his interest in collecting Pokemon. Hence, Persin expresses a desire to find someone who will truly value these cards. Notably, the significant amount of money he’ll receive from the sale is an added advantage for him letting go of his collection.
In this unique set of cards, none have ever received an official appraisal. Given their extreme rarity, Persin opted against sending them to a grading service out of caution. Instead, he provides his personal assessment of each card’s condition, with the least favorable rating being a 6 for his 2009 card. It piques curiosity to consider what happened to this particular piece compared to the rest. Persin has been showcasing his collection and personal experiences on Instagram for quite some time now, most recently unveiling his latest acquisition – the 2024 World Championship trophy card displayed below.
Enthusiasts of Pokémon are utterly astonished by this comprehensive collection, as one user remarks, “This guy has managed to capture them all.” However, the sight of such a scarcely available set of cards being put up for sale has stirred complex emotions among fans. With an estimated price tag of $9 million, there’s a concern that “some wealthy individual or YouTube personality will swoop in and buy it all.” Given the vast Pokémon history on display, many fans hope these cards end up in a dedicated museum, instead of being privately owned. Others are a tad disheartened to learn his family didn’t wish to carry on his tradition of gathering every Pokémon card ever published.
Without a doubt, numerous Pokémon card enthusiasts will eagerly watch as Persin’s collection changes hands, wondering its final destination. Regardless of what lies ahead, it’s an impressive accomplishment to have gathered such a vast number of rare Pokémon cards, and many fans are acknowledging Persin for the dedication shown in this endeavor.
