UNBEATABLE delayed to December 9

Playstack and D-CELL have announced that their rhythm game, UNBEATABLE, will now launch on December 9th. It was originally scheduled for November 6th. The game will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC through Steam.

The companies announced a delay, explaining that a critical quality assurance issue arose late last night, making the current build unsuitable for release. Addressing this problem would push back the launch date due to certification requirements. They’ve decided to release the game on PC first, followed by consoles, rather than launching on all platforms simultaneously.

Here is the full message from Playstack and D-CELL:

Hi! UNBEATABLE was supposed to come out tomorrow!

That’s a scary sentence. Here’s a worse one: UNBEATABLE will now release on December 9.

I’m truly sorry to have to share this news, and I know an apology isn’t enough. I sincerely wish things had turned out differently.

Why Would You Only Tell Me Now?

I’m still reeling from the news – the decision was just made a few hours ago, seriously! I’m typing this up immediately after the meeting, and we wanted to let you all know as quickly as humanly possible.

But Why? The Game’s Done, Right?

We encountered a critical quality issue during testing last night that prevents us from releasing the current build. Addressing this problem will unfortunately delay the console release due to certification requirements. However, we’ve decided to prioritize fixing the issue rather than releasing a flawed product, so we’re working on a solution now.

But Why Not Just Delay the Release of the Console Port?

That’s very messy! We’d rather release the game all at once for everybody.

But Why Release on December 9? That’s a Whole Month Away!

It’s pretty easy to see why we picked this new release date. A quick online search of upcoming game releases shows November was already crowded. We initially aimed for November 6th, but moving from that date meant jumping ahead quite a bit to find another open slot. The good news is this gives us more time to prepare for launch – things we had to postpone to finish the game in time for tomorrow’s original deadline.

…But is the Game Good?

I’m really proud of this, though I might be a little biased! We’ll have to see what others think when they review it. It’s amazing knowing so many of you have been waiting patiently, and it feels strange keeping all the details under wraps. I’m incredibly excited and wish you could all experience it right now.

Thank you to everyone who’s rooted for us up until this point. It’s not much longer now.

—RJ Lake and everyone at D-CELL and Playstack
