Both Terminator 2D: No Fate and the rhythm game UNBEATABLE have recently faced unexpected delays. UNBEATABLE, which was supposed to come out today, is now scheduled to launch on December 9th for Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC.
It’s a bit ironic, but the decision to postpone the game was made just a few hours before it was announced. Director RJ Lake explained he was writing the announcement immediately after the meeting where the delay was decided. The reason for the delay, which he described as “very boring and frustrating,” was a critical technical issue discovered the night before that made releasing the game impossible.
Although the issue can be resolved, it would delay the game’s release. However, leaving it unfixed isn’t an option – the team is committed to fixing it.
Lake explained that delaying the console releases wasn’t a good option, calling the logistics “very messy.” They preferred to launch the game on all platforms simultaneously. Plus, waiting another month would have meant a longer wait for fans, including many who helped fund the game back in 2021.
The delay ultimately hinges on other planned releases this month. We had a brief window of opportunity on November 6th, but missing that date means waiting a significant amount of time for the next available opening – and that’s the closest we could find. The extra time will allow the team to complete some important pre-launch tasks that had to be postponed, which is a positive outcome.
Lake ended by enthusiastically calling the game “very good,” though he admitted his opinion was biased. He then playfully acknowledged the anticipation surrounding the release, saying he was a little overwhelmed knowing how much players still had to discover. He expressed his excitement and wished the release date was sooner.
December 9th is just before The Game Awards, where we might see some surprise game announcements. However, the week also has some already-confirmed releases, like Skate Story and Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 for PlayStation 5, which is great.
