
A University of Kentucky cheerleader is facing legal trouble.
On August 27, Laken Ashlee Snelling was taken into custody, as stated by the local Lexington police, due to an investigation involving a deceased baby concealed within a closet.
On Wednesday, the 27th of August, 2025, at approximately 10:30 a.m., law enforcement was called to a house in the 400 block of Park Avenue due to an unresponsive baby. Upon arrival, they discovered the infant who was sadly confirmed dead at the location.
21-year-old Snelling is under accusation for secretly storing her deceased newborn, swaddled in a towel inside a garbage bag, within her wardrobe, allegedly to camouflage the fresh delivery, as reported by NBC News, based on the police statement.
A university student, as reported by authorities, has been accused of desecrating a body, altering physical evidence, and hiding the birth of a baby. Accordingly, they were taken into custody at the Fayette County Detention Center in Lexington, Kentucky.
According to the police statement, the Special Victims Unit will carry on with their investigation, and it was also mentioned that the Fayette County Coroner’s Office will disclose the reason behind the infant’s death.
TopMob News has tried reaching out to a lawyer for Snelling for their thoughts, and contacted the local law enforcement for comment, but hasn’t received any response so far.
According to a statement made by the University of Kentucky to local news station WLEX, it was confirmed that Snelling has been part of their STUNT team for the past three seasons. All other inquiries are to be addressed to the Lexington Police Department.
According to publicly available documents, The Guardian mentioned that Snelling had a tentative court date set for September 2.
The baby, as per a report obtained by WLEX, was found swaddled in a towel within a black garbage bag. Furthermore, the document stated that Snelling, following the reading of her Miranda rights, confessed to having given birth to the child.
According to the document from WLEX, Snelling confessed to hiding the birth and disposing of any related evidence. He put all the cleaning materials he used into a black garbage bag, along with the newborn, who was swaddled in a towel.
According to the information from public records, The Guardian reported that Snelling had a planned initial court hearing scheduled for September 2nd.
