Geoff Keighley started the Summer Game Fest with a big reveal: a remake of the popular Resident Evil Code Veronica, now called Resident Evil Veronica, is coming to PlayStation 5 next year.
The recently released trailer for the survival horror game looked like it was filmed from the player’s point of view, but it was actually designed to mislead viewers and maintain an element of surprise.
Yoshiaki Hirabayashi, the producer, shared in a recent press interview that the upcoming Resident Evil remake, RE Veronica, will be played entirely from a third-person perspective; players won’t experience any sections in first-person.
What you see in the trailer isn’t exactly how things will happen at the beginning of the game, and the actual scene will unfold a bit differently when you play.
As a long-time Resident Evil fan, I’ve definitely noticed they’ve switched things up with the camera angles over the years – sometimes it’s over the shoulder, other times it’s first-person, and lately, some games even let you pick! In Resident Evil Requiem, they’re taking that a step further. There are two characters you can play as, and each one feels like it’s built specifically for a different viewpoint – one’s better in first-person, the other in third.
The original game, Code Veronica, let you play as two different characters. However, the remake appears to be focusing on a single, third-person perspective.
As Hirabayashi points out, Capcom often likes to keep things unexpected, and the way they revealed the trailer was a fun example of that.
