In the year 2025, businesses are advised to prioritize privacy and routinely incorporate robust encryption into their product lineup if they aim to expand their market presence, as suggested by Yannik Schrade, co-founder and CEO of Arcium.
Arcium, self-proclaimed as the “encrypted supercomputer,” aims to distribute and secure computing capabilities. According to Schrade, this decentralization and encryption of power are essential for creating a secure web, and its advantages extend not only to privacy enthusiasts but also to businesses alike.
On the 53rd episode of CryptoMoon’s podcast titled “The Agenda,” hosts Jonathan DeYoung and Ray Salmond engage in a conversation with Schrade, who clarifies the nature of Arcium, its operation, advocates for encryption universally, and emphasizes the advantages that accrue to everyone when everything is encrypted.
What is an encrypted supercomputer?
Schrade referred to Arcium as a network of computers spread across the globe, collectively functioning as a powerful supercomputer. This supercomputer accepts encrypted data from users, performs computations on it without decrypting or viewing the data, and then returns the results. In essence, this enables users to execute any type of computation in a completely encrypted and trust-free manner.
In discussing an example of how a secure, encrypted supercomputer might be utilized, Schrade highlighted the process of training Artificial Intelligence (AI) models. He explained that this technology could allow developers to train models using highly confidential information, such as personal health data collected by an Apple Watch, which most people would normally find too private to share.
Instead of keeping our data separate, we could combine it all for stronger analysis using advanced models. However, there’s no one on earth we trust enough to handle our data. Now, through confidential computing, we can work with encrypted and isolated data without having to share it with others. This means we can perform tasks like training an AI model without any participant needing to divulge their data.
“AI and blockchain require privacy. It makes those applications more powerful. And also I think for human advancement, in general, I think we need this kind of privacy technology.
Businesses and individuals alike benefit from privacy
Encryption is frequently discussed in terms of its role in safeguarding individuals’ privacy rights and shielding sensitive communication systems from espionage by governments or hostile entities. Yet, as per Schrade’s perspective, encryption also presents a significant financial advantage.
As the focus on data privacy intensifies among individuals due to growing concerns over how Big Tech handles information, there’s a significant market potential for companies adopting privacy-focused technologies. These solutions not only ensure secure handling of sensitive data but also present an attractive revenue growth opportunity, according to Schrade’s perspective.
He stated that they can utilize such data only with the user’s permission, ensuring no chance of data breaches, and without any worry about potential negative repercussions for the user when sharing their data.
“At some point, it’s logical to use this kind of more powerful encryption because no data is being leaked, no hacker steals data, no penalties have to be paid. At the same time, customers are more happy and the applications can be made more powerful because they can safely take more data. […] And again, I think there’s win-win situations across sectors.”
