In the world of Pokemon Go, Niantic developers continue to incorporate Pokemon originally featured in the main series games, often introducing them from different generations at a time. A fresh Pokemon Go event has been announced, featuring two Pokemon originating from the Galar region. The Cozy Companions event starts on Wednesday, August 6th at 10 a.m., and runs until Tuesday, August 12th at 8 p.m., local time. To catch these new additions to their Pokedex, players must be active during this period as they won’t come easily.
As a dedicated Pokemon Go fan, I’m thrilled about the unique opportunity that the Cozy Companions event brings: the introduction of Snom and its evolved form, Frosmoth! However, it seems that Snom won’t be roaming freely during this event. Instead, we’ll find it nestled within 7 km Eggs that are gathered throughout the event. Now, this has been a point of contention among players who view Egg Hatching as a kind of paywall, and the situation is particularly frustrating with Snom. To make matters worse, its evolution requirements appear to be quite demanding.
Players need 400 candies to evolve Snom into Frosmoth, similar to Gyarados and Volcarona. While this amount might seem substantial, it’s not unheard of in Pokemon gameplay. However, the process requires significant time and effort, as Pinap Berries cannot be utilized since Snom is obtained from an Egg. Furthermore, players must earn 10 hearts with Snom as their buddy and wait for nighttime before triggering the evolution. This method closely mirrors the one used in Pokemon Sword and Shield, but some players are disappointed that Snom can only be hatched from Eggs.
The main reason some Pokemon Go players aren’t keen on events centered around Egg Hatching is because they heavily depend on luck. For instance, during the Cozy Companions event, Snom, Galarian Farfetch’d, Pancham, and Charcadet are among the Pokemon that will be found in 7 km Eggs. Even though you might walk a lot during the event, you could still hatch numerous Pokemon that you don’t really require. Additionally, many players feel it’s a strategy by Niantic to encourage sales of Super Incubators, which are priced at 200 PokeCoins each. It’s worth noting that Snom will eventually appear in 5 km Eggs as well, but only after the event concludes.
Some players of Pokemon Go may find events such as this one problematic, but not everyone shares that view. In fact, there are plenty of other players who appreciate a challenge and tasks that take them longer to accomplish. Whether you agree or disagree with the approach of limiting Pokemon debuts to Egg Hatches, it appears that Niantic has no intention of changing their strategy in the near future.
