Sony announced that an improved version of the PlayStation 5 Pro’s AI upscaling technology, called PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, will be available worldwide in the next few weeks.
PlayStation’s Spectral Super Resolution technology has already improved the visuals in over 50 games on the PlayStation 5 Pro.
Okay, so I just found out that Resident Evil Requiem is a big deal tech-wise. It’s the first game to use an upgraded version of PlayStation’s Spectral Super Resolution. Apparently, it’s a completely new way of boosting graphics – not just the AI stuff, but the whole process. The result? It keeps the game looking amazing and running smoothly, which is awesome. Seriously, it’s a noticeable jump in how things look and play.
According to Masaru Ijuin, a senior manager at Capcom, the team behind Resident Evil Requiem worked to make the main character look more realistic and draw players deeper into the horror experience. They did this by improving their RE Engine. For example, they modeled each hair and beard strand as a separate polygon, allowing for natural movement with the character and wind. They also focused on how light interacts with the hair, making it look more detailed and lifelike. Capcom hopes fans will notice and appreciate these improvements.
Ijuin explained that the improved PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution technology lets them showcase finer details and textures, which are usually hard to make look good when upscaling. They’re excited for players to experience a new level of visual quality, horror, and a fresh gameplay experience.
This compares the original PlayStation version of Resident Evil Requiem, enhanced with Spectral Super Resolution upscaling, to a newer, more improved version.

According to Mark Cerny, lead system architect for PlayStation 5, the new PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution technology is built on work done with AMD through their Project Amethyst partnership. PC gamers are already familiar with the benefits of this collaboration thanks to AMD’s FSR 4 upscaling. The updated Spectral Super Resolution for the PlayStation 5 Pro delivers the latest version of this technology, improved with another six months of development.
Okay, so I just heard they’re rolling out some cool improvements to how games look on PlayStation! They’re calling it PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, and it’s basically making games look sharper and clearer. They’re saying in March, a bunch of games I already own will get upgraded automatically. Then, I’ll be able to go into the settings and turn on an option called “Enhance PSSR Image Quality” to really make those supported games pop. Sounds awesome – I can’t wait to see the difference!
