USA Men’s Hockey Team Breaks 46-Year Losing Streak With Historic Win

USA’s men’s hockey team just experienced a golden moment.

I was absolutely thrilled to watch Team USA beat Canada in the men’s hockey final at the 2026 Olympics! It was an incredible game, a real nail-biter that ended 2-1. As a longtime fan, it felt amazing to see them win gold again – it’s been 46 years since they last took the top spot in 1980! This victory against our biggest rivals is something I’ll remember for a long time.

Exactly 46 years ago today, the U.S. Olympic hockey team achieved a stunning upset victory over the heavily favored Soviet Union – a game now famously known as the “Miracle on Ice.” What made the win so remarkable was that the American team consisted of college students playing for fun, while the Soviet team was made up of seasoned professional players.

Almost 50 years later, Jack Hughes of Team USA gave American fans a reason to cheer, scoring the goal that won the historic game.

When the USA hockey team scored against Canada’s Jordan Binnington, they immediately rushed to celebrate with the player who made the goal.

After the game on February 22nd, Jack expressed his strong national pride, saying, “This moment feels like it’s for our whole country.” He shared his love for the USA, his teammates, and the incredible sense of community within the U.S. hockey team, noting the strong support they receive from former players. He finished by saying he was incredibly proud to be an American.

As for how the athletes pulled off the win?

“It was just a ballsy, gutsy win,” Jack explained. “That’s American hockey right there.”

Jack isn’t the only American athlete achieving greatness at this year’s Olympics. Kaila Kuhn, Connor Curran, and Chris Lillis also made history on February 21st, winning gold in the mixed team aerials event. Their victory helped Team USA set a new record for the most gold medals won at a single Winter Olympics.

And there’s more exciting news! Just two days before, Alysa Liu made history by becoming the first American woman to win gold in figure skating in 24 years. At 20 years old, she also broke a record by being the first skater to win gold in her 20s since Shizuka Arakawa of Japan won at age 24 in 2006.

On her way to the medal ceremony, Alysa couldn’t contain her excitement.

“I just can’t process this. There’s no way,” Alysa said. “I really liked my skate a lot.”
