USWNT’s Savannah DeMelo Suffers “Medical Emergency” Mid-Game

Savannah DeMelo experienced a health scare on the field.

A Racing Louisville soccer player collapsed on the field just minutes into the team’s game against Seattle Reign on September 14th at Lumen Field in Seattle.

The 27-year-old player, who also represents the U.S. Women’s National Team, was seen slowly sitting down on the field with a teammate for support, according to Reuters, before suddenly collapsing. Trainers were immediately called to assess her condition.

The National Women’s Soccer League announced that tonight’s game between Seattle Reign FC and Racing Louisville FC was stopped due to a medical issue with Racing Louisville’s Savannah DeMelo. Medical staff immediately attended to DeMelo on the field, and she was taken to a hospital for further tests.

According to the latest update, she is doing well and is fully conscious. Her health and safety are the main concern right now, and we’re working closely with the medical staff at Racing Louisville.

The remaining games will be rescheduled for a date that works for both teams. In the meantime, the other team has offered their support.

The Seattle Reign expressed their solidarity with Louisville in a statement on September 14th, and also thanked their fans for the ongoing support.

This new health issue for DeMelo follows an incident six months ago when she had to be taken off the field during a game against Bay FC because she felt dizzy and had chest pain.

Two months later, she shared that she had been diagnosed with Graves’ disease and hyperthyroidism.

She told ESPN in May that playing a full 90-minute soccer game felt impossible. Around the 25-minute mark, she’d start feeling incredibly breathless and her heart would race, leaving her feeling very unfit and confused about what was happening.

As a lifestyle expert, I often see people misattributing symptoms to everyday things like fatigue. That’s what happened to my client, DeMelo. She just didn’t feel quite right, but initially chalked it up to not getting enough sleep. Turns out, she was eventually diagnosed with Graves’ disease, which is essentially an immune system issue that causes the thyroid to overproduce hormones. It’s a good reminder that if something feels off, it’s always worth getting checked out by a doctor!

She remembered trying to explain her feelings away, thinking things like, ‘Perhaps I just need more sleep, or maybe all the travel was getting to me, or I wasn’t eating right.’ She said she spent a while going through that process of self-explanation.

After finally getting a diagnosis for her thyroid issues – which explain symptoms like a fast heartbeat and unintentional weight loss – DeMelo has a clearer understanding of how her health impacts her performance.

She explained that her biggest challenge was a lack of energy, which affected her ability to make quick, smart decisions while playing. She’s a player who likes to constantly move, running forward and back to contribute on both offense and defense, but she felt too tired to do that effectively.

Former *Total Bellas* star Nikki Bella shared that one of her breast implants moved after being hit during an elbow strike from wrestler Piper Niven in a match that took place in July 2025.

She reassured her sister, Bella Garcia, that they would get the issue resolved eventually. She explained to the doctor that as soon as she finished her current commitments – implying after her divorce was finalized – she would return to address the problem and ensure everything looked its best, anticipating future use and wanting it to be presentable.

I was so saddened to learn that Lupita Nyong’o was diagnosed with uterine fibroids back in 2014. It’s tough to think about her dealing with that while also achieving such incredible success – she actually won her Oscar for *12 Years a Slave* that same year! Uterine fibroids are these non-cancerous growths that can develop in or around the uterus, and it must have been a lot to navigate alongside everything else.

She didn’t reveal her diagnosis until 2025, when she shared on Instagram that she had been privately struggling with it for over ten years.

She explained that many girls are taught to accept period pain as a normal part of being a woman. This often leaves them dealing with a common issue in silence and feeling isolated.

I was so worried when I heard Riley Keough had to be hospitalized back in July 2025! Apparently, she developed a hernia – it’s basically a weak spot in the abdominal muscles – and it was caused by wearing really tight pants. Can you believe that? I’m just glad she’s okay!

She messaged Suki on X (formerly Twitter), saying, “You haven’t tweeted in a while!” Then, jokingly adding, “Have you ever thought that maybe I wore pants so tight six months ago that I got a hernia and have been afraid to mention it?”

The former star of *Beverly Hills, 90210* shared in April 2025 that he was recovering from surgery because his appendix was close to rupturing.

Brian shared in an Instagram video that he recently experienced stomach pain which led him to the emergency room. He explained he had a perforated appendix – it hadn’t fully burst, but was very close to doing so.

He added, “I’m on the road to recovery. It’s not an easy process. This is my first major surgery.”

A Racing Louisville soccer player collapsed on the field shortly after the start of their game against the Seattle Reign on September 14th at Lumen Field in Seattle.

According to Reuters, the U.S. Women’s National Team player sat down on the field with a teammate supporting her, and then quickly collapsed. Trainers were immediately called to assess her condition.

After receiving immediate medical attention on the field, Savannah was taken to a nearby hospital for more tests, according to a statement from the National Women’s Soccer League. They reported that she is currently in stable condition and is alert.

Adam Devine revealed that injuries from a childhood accident – he was hit by a cement truck at age 11 – continue to cause him problems now.

“It’s been awful,” Devine shared on the *In Depth With Graham Bensinger* podcast in 2025. “I experience spasms throughout my body, and doctors recently told me I was facing a life-threatening situation-within the last year, actually.”

He explained that his pain is intermittent, saying his body has some minor imperfections and isn’t quite functioning as it should.

A former contestant on The Bachelor went to the hospital because of severe back pain. He described being in so much pain that he could only crawl on his hands and knees, and the pain got worse during a road trip with a friend.

He described a strange tingling sensation that still lingered in his knees and toes as of March 2025, sharing this on his *Trading Secrets* podcast. He explained that just a few weeks or a month prior, he was able to squat 295 pounds, but now he can’t even do a squat, or even stand on one leg without falling. He compared the feeling to having a stroke.

But with the help of a back specialist and some steroids, he added, “We’re on the mend.”

Gina Kirschenheiter from *The Real Housewives of Orange County* revealed that her ex-husband, Matt Kirschenheiter, had a heart attack in March 2025, but he is now recovering.

In March 2025, the actor from 30 Rock experienced a medical issue at a New York Knicks game and had to be taken out of Madison Square Garden in a wheelchair.

The comedian later posted on social media to explain he’d actually gotten food poisoning and was starting to feel better.

In February 2025, the former *Even Stevens* star revealed she was shot in the face during a birthday celebration for her husband, Brendan Rooney. They were on a clay pigeon shooting trip when the incident occurred.

In an Instagram post, she explained that she was accidentally shot in the face by someone at a party who fired a gun unsafely. Brendan Rooney quickly helped her, evaluated her injuries, and drove her to the hospital. She was hit five times, and one bullet narrowly missed her right eye, coming within an inch of a direct hit.

According to the former *Kim Possible* star, a small piece of something got stuck behind her eye. Doctors have advised against removing it with surgery right now, and they’ll be keeping a close watch on her condition, though her vision is currently normal.

The actress expressed immense gratitude for surviving a frightening experience. She shared how much she cherishes her daughters, husband, family, and friends, explaining that she realized how quickly life can change. She urged everyone to hug their loved ones often, emphasizing the importance of appreciating those around you.

Amy Schumer is grateful for the internet, surprisingly, because it helped her discover a health issue. After noticing she looked “puffier,” Schumer received criticism online. She initially dismissed it, but then doctors began commenting, expressing concern that she might have Cushing syndrome, a condition often linked to high cortisol levels or steroid injections. This prompted Schumer to realize she’d been receiving steroid injections after a breast reduction and C-section. She later learned she had a form of Cushing syndrome that would resolve on its own, and she’s relieved to be healthy. She shared this positive news in a February 2024 newsletter, saying it was the best news she could have hoped for.

In December 2024, an AHL player suffered a skate cut during a game and needed 25 stitches to close the wound. After his son made a full recovery, New Jersey Devils General Manager Tom Fitzgerald told ESPN how grateful they were, saying, “We feel very lucky, and I wouldn’t want any parent to go through that.”

In March 2022, Hailey Bieber experienced a frightening health scare while having breakfast with her husband, Justin Bieber. She suddenly developed stroke-like symptoms, initially unable to respond when Justin asked if she was alright. She then realized she couldn’t speak and the right side of her face began to droop.

Although the symptoms eventually subsided, Hailey went to the hospital where tests revealed she’d had a small blood clot in her brain, diagnosed as a TIA (Transient Ischemic Attack).

Further testing at UCLA discovered she had a hole in her heart, called a patent foramen ovale (PFO). Doctors determined the blood clot had traveled to her brain through this hole, causing the TIA.

Hailey successfully underwent a procedure to close the PFO and is now doing well.

The same year Hailey faced a health issue, Justin also experienced one. In June 2022, he revealed he had been diagnosed with Ramsay Hunt syndrome, a condition that caused temporary paralysis on one side of his face. This forced him to cancel the rest of his Justice World Tour.

In a video posted to Instagram, Justin explained that the virus affected the nerves in his ear and face, preventing him from blinking, smiling, or moving his nostril on the affected side. He also shared that it had become increasingly difficult to eat.

Fortunately, the paralysis eventually went away. Hailey later shared on *Good Morning America* that Justin was recovering well, calling the situation scary but assuring everyone he would be okay and was grateful he was on the mend.

Jamie Foxx recently shared details about the health scare he experienced in April 2023, which he had previously kept private. In his 2024 Netflix special, *What Had Happened Was…*, he explained that he was suffering from a severe headache when he suddenly collapsed. He doesn’t remember the next twenty days.

Initially, a doctor gave him a cortisone shot and sent him home, but his sister, Deidra Dixon, was worried and took him to the hospital. There, doctors discovered he had a brain bleed that caused a stroke.

After surgery, Jamie woke up in a wheelchair on May 4th, unable to walk. He then went to Chicago for rehabilitation and therapy. He expressed his gratitude for the prayers he received, saying he needed every single one.

The reality TV star shared that she briefly stopped breathing while running in the first challenge of the NBC competition show.

She shared on the show *Fit for TV: The Reality of The Biggest Loser* that her memory of the event was fragmented. She recalled hearing a helicopter, feeling like she was floating, and then seeing her grandfather. After that, everything went dark, but she then experienced a bright light, leading her to realize she had died that day.

It was terrifying. She explained that her body was actually failing – her organs were literally shutting down. She didn’t even know what was happening, and later found out she had rhabdomyolysis. As she described it, it’s basically your body’s way of sending up a desperate SOS, telling you it’s about to give out.

Emilia Clarke, known for her role in *Game of Thrones*, revealed a harrowing health battle in a 2019 essay for *The New Yorker*. While filming the series, she experienced a sudden, severe headache while at the gym. She described collapsing and being violently ill, realizing something was seriously wrong with her brain.

A hospital scan quickly revealed she had suffered a subarachnoid hemorrhage – a life-threatening stroke caused by bleeding around the brain. It was determined she had an aneurysm, a ruptured blood vessel. She immediately underwent surgery to repair it, but the pain was excruciating.

During her recovery, she experienced aphasia, struggling to speak coherently. Thankfully, this passed after a week, and she was discharged from the hospital after a month. However, a brain scan in 2013 revealed the aneurysm had grown, requiring a second surgery. This operation was unsuccessful, leading to a major bleed and a dire prognosis. Doctors had to perform a more invasive procedure, accessing her brain directly through her skull.

Despite these terrifying experiences, Emilia Clarke is now thankfully fully recovered and says she is “at a hundred per cent.”

Cori Broadus, Snoop Dogg’s daughter, is thankful for the support of her family. In January 2024, she suffered a stroke and immediately reached out to her loved ones, who quickly came to her aid. She shared with TopMob News’ Will Marfuggi in December 2024 that everyone rushed to be there for her. Cori ended up staying in the hospital longer than expected due to other health issues, including concerns with her lupus and failing kidneys. Thankfully, Cori is now recovering well. “I’m doing great,” she said. “I just needed to regain some motor skills, but overall I’m doing fine.”

As a wellness advocate, I’ve always believed in listening to your body, and Shailene Woodley’s story really resonates with that. She openly shared that her early twenties were a really challenging time for her health. She was dealing with a lot – she actually lost some of her hearing and couldn’t even walk for more than five minutes without needing to rest for hours. Everything she ate caused her stomach pain, and she was getting conflicting advice from doctors.

Because I’m a big believer in a holistic approach, I totally understand why she took matters into her own hands. Shailene, with her background in herbalism, wanted to work *with* medical doctors, but also explore alternative healers. It was a ten-year journey of trying to find answers and, honestly, comfort within herself.

She explained that the physical discomfort led to a lot of mental and emotional struggles, including fear around food, body image issues, and a real questioning of her identity and sense of safety. It’s a powerful reminder of how connected our physical and mental wellbeing truly are.

The good news is, after a lot of work and dedication, she’s now feeling incredibly healthy and happy. It’s so inspiring to hear her share her story and know that she’s found a place of peace and comfort in her own skin.
