Val Chmerkovskiy Shares Diagnosis After Health Scare During DWTS Tour

Val Chmerkovskiy is getting answers about his health.

After the Dancing with the Stars professional mentioned experiencing dizziness from his hospital bed, doctors diagnosed him with benign paroxysmal positional vertigo, or BPPV, which explained what he was feeling.

In a video posted to Instagram on March 3rd, he shared that he’s been diagnosed with BPPV, a condition he described as not serious. He also expressed relief that tests showed no sign of a brain tumor and that the issue wasn’t connected to a previous neck injury.

After getting some medical tests done to rule out potential problems, I’m feeling much better,” the 39-year-old said. He had gone to the hospital after the Dancing With the Stars live tour on March 1st, and is now returning to the show tonight.

Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo, or BPPV, is a frequent cause of vertigo – that sudden, spinning sensation many people experience, as defined by the Mayo Clinic.

Fortunately, Val mentioned the tour’s physical therapist knows a technique to help with his condition. While he wasn’t quite feeling like himself yet, he assured everyone he’d be dancing again that night.

He admitted he wasn’t quite at his best, but said he was ready to go on with the show. He finished by saying he’d see everyone later that evening.

He was sure to thank everyone who sent well wishes, writing alongside a video with a red heart, “I appreciate all the love and concern.”

Val’s health update comes one day after sharing that he was experiencing extreme dizziness.

Val revealed in an Instagram video posted on March 2nd that he’s been experiencing vertigo for the past few days. He explained he had an episode yesterday, managed to perform, and then underwent some medical tests.

He also shared that the grueling realities of touring may have exasperated his symptoms.

Oh my gosh, he said the most heartbreaking thing! He described this… core part of himself, like a little crystal that keeps him balanced, and he said once it’s gone, it’s SO hard to get back. He was talking about feeling totally lost, like he’s just spinning out of control. He even said it happened on the bus, he woke up and just couldn’t pull himself together! It was so raw and vulnerable, and it just broke my heart to hear him describe it. I feel like I understand him so much better now, and I just want to help him find that balance again.

Val still hoped to get into the Milwaukee, Wisconsin show on March 3rd, even with the challenges he faced.

“So hopefully tomorrow’s our day off,” he added. “I’ll be back on Tuesday. Love you thank you.”

As someone who’s always been open about the realities of life – and especially life in the WWE – I wanted to share something a little personal. During a match back in July 2025 against Piper Niven, I took an elbow slam that actually caused one of my breast implants to shift. It’s definitely a reminder that even as a professional athlete, unexpected things can happen, and sometimes it’s just about being real about it!

I remember when she told Bella, her sister, that everything would be alright. She was so determined! She actually said to the doctor, ‘As soon as my divorce is final and I can retire my boots, I’m coming back to you and we’re going to make these horses look amazing. They deserve to really shine, and they will be showing off in the future – they just can’t look the way they do now!’ It was so inspiring to hear her talk about getting them back to their best.

Lupita Nyong’o, known for her role in 12 Years a Slave, received a diagnosis of uterine fibroids—non-cancerous growths in or around the uterus—in 2014, the same year she won an Academy Award for her acting.

I nearly fell off my chair when she finally told us in 2025! She posted on Instagram that she’d been battling this privately for over ten years – ten years of hiding, of suffering in silence! It just broke my heart, but honestly, it also made me admire her even more.

She explained that growing up, many of us are told that periods are naturally painful, and that we just have to deal with it. This leaves a lot of people feeling like they’re going through a difficult experience all by themselves.

In July 2025, the actress from Daisy Jones & The Six revealed she was hospitalized for a hernia. This happened because she had been wearing pants that were too tight, which caused a gap in her abdominal muscles.

Someone messaged Suki on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, asking why she hadn’t tweeted recently. The message jokingly continued, ‘Have you ever considered I wore pants so tight six months ago that I got a hernia and have been afraid to tell you?’

Oh my gosh, you will NOT believe this! I was absolutely devastated to hear that my absolute favorite, one of the original stars of Beverly Hills, 90210, had to have surgery! Apparently, his appendix was this close to bursting back in April 2025, and he’s just recovering now. I was so worried about him! I’m just so glad he’s on the mend!

Brian shared in an Instagram video that he recently experienced stomach pain which led him to the emergency room. He explained he had a perforated appendix – it hadn’t fully burst, but was very close to it.

He added, “I’m on the road to recovery. It’s not an easy process. This is my first major surgery.”

As a lifestyle expert who follows sports, I was really concerned to hear about the Racing Louisville midfielder who collapsed during their game against Seattle Reign on September 14th. It happened so early in the match at Lumen Field in Seattle, and it was definitely a scary moment for everyone involved.

According to Reuters, the U.S. Women’s National Team player was seen slowly sitting down on the field with a teammate supporting her, just before she collapsed. Trainers were immediately called to assess her condition.

After receiving immediate medical attention on the field, Savannah was taken to a nearby hospital for more tests. League officials reported she is currently in stable condition and is alert.

Adam Devine revealed that injuries from being hit by a cement truck at age 11 still cause him problems today.

“It’s been a terrible experience,” Devine shared on the In Depth With Graham Bensinger podcast in 2025. “I’ve been having spasms all over my body, and doctors recently told me I was in a life-threatening situation—I really thought I was going to die within the last year.”

He explained that his pain is intermittent, saying his body has several minor issues and imperfections.

A former contestant on The Bachelor went to the hospital because of severe back pain. He said he was in so much pain he had to crawl on his hands and knees, and the pain got worse during a road trip with a friend.

He described a lingering tingling sensation in his knees and toes during a March 2025 episode of his podcast, Trading Secrets. He explained that just a few weeks or a month prior, he was able to squat 295 pounds, but now he can’t even do a squat, or even stand on one leg without falling. He said it felt like he’d had a stroke.

But with the help of a back specialist and some steroids, he added, “We’re on the mend.”

Gina Kirschenheiter, from The Real Housewives of Orange County, revealed that her ex-husband, Matt Kirschenheiter, had a heart attack in March 2025, but he is recovering well.

In March 2025, the actor from 30 Rock experienced a medical issue at a New York Knicks game and had to be taken out of Madison Square Garden in a wheelchair.

The comedian later posted on social media to explain that he hadn’t been feeling well due to food poisoning, but was starting to recover.

In February 2025, the former Even Stevens star revealed she was accidentally shot in the face during a birthday celebration for her husband, Brendan Rooney. They were on a clay pigeon shooting outing at the time.

I was shot in the face at a party because someone fired a gun carelessly in the wrong direction,” she explained in an Instagram post. “Brendan Rooney quickly helped me, checked my injuries, and drove me to the hospital. I was hit five times, and one bullet nearly hit my right eye.

The former Kim Possible star explained that a small piece of something got stuck behind their eye. Doctors have advised against removing it with surgery right now, and they’ll continue to monitor the situation, as their vision is currently normal.

The actress expressed immense gratitude for surviving. She shared how much she loves her daughters, husband, family, and friends, explaining that experiencing a near-death moment made her realize how quickly life can change. She urged everyone to cherish their loved ones and hug them whenever possible.

Amy Schumer is grateful for the internet, even though it can be harsh, because it helped her discover a health issue. After noticing she looked “puffier” and receiving critical comments online, doctors began commenting on interviews, suggesting she might have Cushing syndrome, a condition potentially caused by high cortisol levels or steroid injections. This prompted Schumer to realize she’d been receiving steroid injections after a breast reduction and C-section. She wouldn’t have known about the condition without the online feedback. Thankfully, doctors determined her case of Cushing syndrome would resolve on its own, which Schumer described as “the greatest news imaginable.” She’s now relieved to be healthy.

During a December 2024 game, an AHL player was accidentally cut in the face by another player’s skate and needed 25 stitches. After his son made a full recovery, New Jersey Devils general manager Tom Fitzgerald told ESPN, “We feel very fortunate. No parent should have to go through that.”

In March 2022, Hailey Bieber experienced a frightening health scare while having breakfast with her husband, Justin Bieber. She suddenly began to have stroke-like symptoms, struggling to speak and noticing her face drooping. Although her symptoms briefly subsided, she went to the hospital for evaluation. Doctors discovered she’d had a small blood clot travel to her brain, which they identified as a TIA (Transient Ischemic Attack). Further testing at UCLA revealed Hailey had a hole in her heart, called a patent foramen ovale (PFO). This hole allowed the blood clot to reach her brain, causing the TIA. Hailey has since undergone a successful procedure to close the hole in her heart and is now doing well.

The same year Hailey faced a health issue, Justin also experienced one. In June 2022, he revealed he had been diagnosed with Ramsay Hunt syndrome, which caused temporary paralysis on one side of his face. This forced him to cancel the rest of his Justice World Tour.

In a video posted to Instagram, Justin explained the condition affects nerves in his ear and face, preventing him from blinking, smiling, or moving his nostril on the affected side. He also shared it had become increasingly difficult for him to eat.

Fortunately, the paralysis eventually went away. Hailey shared on Good Morning America that Justin was recovering well, saying it had been a frightening experience, but he was going to be okay and was thankfully doing much better.

Jamie Foxx recently shared details about the serious health scare he experienced in April 2023, which he had initially kept private. In his 2024 Netflix special, What Had Happened Was…, he explained that he suffered from a severe headache one day while in Atlanta. He asked for aspirin, but lost consciousness before he could take it, and doesn’t remember the next 20 days.

Initially, a doctor gave him a cortisone shot and sent him home, but his sister, Deidra Dixon, was worried and took him to the hospital. There, they discovered he had a brain bleed which led to a stroke.

After surgery, Jamie woke up in a wheelchair on May 4th, unable to walk. He then went to Chicago for rehabilitation and therapy. He expressed his gratitude for the prayers he received, saying he needed every single one.

The reality TV star said she briefly stopped breathing while running a mile during the first challenge on the NBC show.

She shared on the show Fit for TV: The Reality of The Biggest Loser that her memory of the event was fragmented. She recalled hearing a helicopter, feeling like she was floating, and then seeing her grandfather. After that, everything went dark, but she then experienced a bright light, leading her to realize she had died that day.

She explained that her organs were failing. She hadn’t known she had rhabdomyolysis, a condition where the body essentially starts to shut down.

Emilia Clarke, known for her role in Game of Thrones, revealed a harrowing health battle in a 2019 essay for The New Yorker. While filming the series, she experienced a severe headache while at the gym, which quickly escalated. She described collapsing and being violently ill, realizing something was seriously wrong with her brain.

After being taken to the hospital, doctors diagnosed her with a subarachnoid hemorrhage – a life-threatening stroke caused by bleeding around the brain – resulting from a ruptured aneurysm. She immediately underwent surgery to repair it, but the pain was excruciating. During her recovery, she struggled with aphasia, finding it difficult to speak coherently.

Though the aphasia eventually passed and she was discharged after a month, a 2013 scan revealed the aneurysm had doubled in size, requiring a second surgery. This procedure was unsuccessful, leading to a massive bleed and a dire prognosis. Doctors had to perform a more invasive surgery, accessing her brain directly through her skull.

Fortunately, Emilia reports she has now made a full recovery and is doing well.

Cori Broadus, Snoop Dogg’s daughter, recently shared how much she appreciates her family’s support after a health scare. In January 2024, Cori suffered a stroke and immediately reached out to her loved ones, sending a text and a picture to let them know what happened. She told TopMob News that her family quickly came to her aid.

Cori ended up staying in the hospital longer than expected due to other health issues. In addition to recovering from the stroke, she was also dealing with complications from lupus and kidney problems.

Fortunately, Cori is now recovering well. She says she’s feeling great and has been working to regain some motor skills, but is otherwise doing fine.

Shailene Woodley struggled with serious health issues throughout her 20s. In a September 2024 podcast interview, she explained that she experienced hearing loss, extreme fatigue, and digestive problems. Doctors offered various diagnoses, leaving her feeling confused and uncomfortable.

Because she comes from a holistic background and studies herbalism, Shailene decided to explore both traditional medicine and alternative healers to find answers. This search for well-being lasted for ten years.

She explained that the physical discomfort led to anxiety around food and ultimately, struggles with body image and identity. It was a challenging time of self-discovery and finding comfort within herself.

Fortunately, Shailene’s health eventually improved. She’s now healthy and happy, and grateful to have resolved the issues she faced.
