Over the years, Valerie Bertinelli has learned to love the skin she’s in.
It wasn’t a quick process, and throughout her years of changing her body – including getting and later removing breast implants (originally in the 1980s, with the removal happening in 2024) – she experienced some frightening health issues.
She told People magazine in an interview on March 4th that she initially enjoyed something, but her feelings changed. She explained that her breasts had fluctuated so much with weight gain and loss that they reached her stomach, and she wished she could have her smaller breasts back.
In her new memoir, Getting Naked, she describes being shocked when she tried to have her breast implants removed. According to Us Weekly, she found they had become hardened and covered in a crust, and she compared them to ostrich eggs.
Valerie remembered thinking, ‘I really should have come in sooner’ when she saw the expression on her doctor’s face. She explained to People magazine that after the doctor removed everything – the implant and the tissue around it – she developed an infection, and her breast began to collapse inward, eventually becoming severely sunken.
In her memoir, she explains that the breast implants and their subsequent removal caused an infection in her right breast. It took six months to heal and for the tissue to regenerate.

The woman, 65, explained that her implants are now drastically different sizes. The one on her left side sits above the muscle, while her right side appears droopy and deformed, according to Us Weekly. She anticipates needing a fourth surgery to correct the asymmetry and achieve a balanced look.
After playfully telling People magazine that her pets are the only ones who glance at her chest—and jokingly suggesting any future partner would need to be blind to avoid doing the same—she shared that having a more positive outlook has helped her cope with difficult periods.
Valerie, mother of Wolfgang Van Halen, 34, and ex-wife of Eddie Van Halen, explained that things were incredibly difficult, but she coped by looking for the funny side of the situation.

Valerie understands and accepts that people choose to change their appearance, and she’s even had cosmetic procedures herself. However, she’s also learned to enjoy the process of getting older.
She playfully told People magazine that while she’d prefer more toned arms, she’s realistic about being in her sixties. She’s grateful her body still functions well – she can navigate stairs, even if going down is a little painful, carry her 35-pound dog, and comfortably stand for two hours watching her son perform, which she considers a joy.

Okay, so you will NOT believe this! Kenya Moore, my QUEEN, finally fixed that under-eye filler she got, like, the DAY she turned 18! It was so obvious, and she finally had it reversed on that Botched Presents: Plastic Surgery Rewind show. I was seriously on the edge of my seat watching it all happen, and honestly, she looks amazing now! I’m SO relieved she finally dealt with it.

She expressed her hope on Instagram that her children would never feel so insecure about their bodies that they would resort to extreme measures to become thin. She emphasized she says this with respect for anyone facing such struggles.

As a lifestyle expert, I always believe in radical honesty, and that’s why I wanted to share what recovery really looks like. Let me tell you, immediately after the procedure, it wasn’t pretty! I honestly looked like I’d been through a major accident – a real before picture. But what’s amazing is how quickly things improve. Within five days, I was able to face the world, and by ten days, you’d never know anything had happened – I was out to dinner feeling completely normal. It’s important to be realistic about the recovery process, and I wanted people to see that.
I totally get why she was so upfront about getting a face lift. Being on reality TV, it would have been so strange if she’d just reappeared looking dramatically younger next season – and honestly, she does look amazing! She knew people would notice, so she wanted to own the story.

She also had Ellevate done on her neck in 2019 by a doctor she tagged, and minimal lip and chin filler. She explicitly stated she hasn’t had filler anywhere else on her face, nor has she had eyelid surgery (bleph). She added that she’d share any future procedures with her followers.

Okay, so I’m finally spilling the tea! I got a lower facelift, and honestly, a few other little things done too. You guys probably noticed the bandage around my head! But the biggest thing? My hands! I’ve always hated my hands, so I did a fat transfer – they basically took fat from my leg (which, seriously, was the most painful part of the whole thing, you wouldn’t believe it!) and put it in my hands. I’m so happy with how it’s turning out, though! I just had to share!

Oh my god, it’s just… she actually said it! Apparently, before she filmed the ‘Applause’ video, one of her photographer friends was seriously worried. He told her – and this is insane – that if she didn’t stop getting… well, whatever she was getting done to her face, he would actually hurt her! Can you believe it? It’s just… everything’s gone now, she said, but the fact that someone was that concerned… it’s so heartbreaking and fascinating all at once. I’ve replayed that clip like a million times!
