After over five years of development, Iron Gate Studio has announced that Valheim 1.0 will officially launch on September 9th. The popular Norse survival and crafting game will be available on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, PC, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch 2. You can now watch the first trailer for the major new update, called Deep North.
In a recent announcement, Iron Gate’s creative director, Robin Eyre, expressed their surprise and gratitude for the large player base and thriving community that has grown around the game since its initial development in 2021. They shared that the upcoming 1.0 release feels both thrilling and nerve-wracking, as they’ve dedicated significant effort to ensure it provides a satisfying conclusion to the Valheim experience.
The ‘Deep North’ update isn’t just a title – it’s also the final area players will explore in the game. As you’d expect, it’s a harsh, blizzard-swept landscape covered in snow. However, players aren’t the first to attempt to survive in this challenging environment.
Besides the weather, you’ll also face Gammeltrolls – tougher, older trolls. Watch out for the underground tunnels too, as they’re home to the Elakingar, who ambush anyone who enters.
Okay, so Iron Gate is still keeping some things under wraps, as usual, but they’ve officially confirmed that when Valheim 1.0 finally launches, we’ll be able to play with people on PS5 and the new Nintendo Switch 2! It’s already out on PC and Xbox (Series X/S and One), and if you’re curious what I thought of it, you can check out my review here.
