Valheim, the popular Viking survival game, is coming to Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026, along with a previously planned release for PlayStation 5. This news comes from Coffee Stain Publishing and Iron Gate Studio, the game’s publisher and developer.

Valheim was initially released on PC through Steam and the Microsoft Store on February 2, 2021. It later became available on Xbox Series and Xbox One consoles on March 14, 2023.

Here are the latest details, via Coffee Stain Publishing:

During today’s Nintendo Direct presentation, it was revealed that the popular survival game Valheim is heading to the new Nintendo Switch 2. Players will be able to play with friends on other platforms thanks to full cross-play support. The Switch 2 version will also feature touch screen menus, enhanced vibration feedback, and motion controls for aiming.

Valheim is a survival and exploration game for 1 to 10 players, where you explore a Viking-inspired afterlife that’s different every time you play. Created by the indie studio Iron Gate and published by Coffee Stain Publishing – the team behind games like Satisfactory and Deep Rock Galactic – Valheim tasks you with fighting, building, and establishing your place in a mythical world. Since its incredibly successful launch in Early Access in 2021, Valheim has received overwhelmingly positive feedback, earning a 94% positive rating on Steam with over 524,000 reviews and selling more than 12 million copies.

Since it was first released in Early Access, Valheim has received three large updates and many smaller ones, adding new areas, weapons, armor, and building options to the game. When the full game launches, players will be able to explore eight unique regions, including the mysterious Mistlands, the dangerous Ashlands, and the remote Deep North.
