Valve has finally announced the release date and price of the Steam Machine, addressing recent concerns about its arrival. For weeks, people have been asking about when the device would launch and how much it would cost. While originally expected in early 2026, Valve hadn’t said anything, leading to worries about a possible delay. Now, Valve has confirmed a slight delay, but it shouldn’t be long before the Steam Machine is available.
Valve recently explained on Steam why they haven’t announced the release date or price of the Steam Machine. They originally intended to have that information, along with details for the new Steam Frame VR headset, available by now. However, shortages of parts have significantly increased manufacturing costs, forcing Valve to reconsider their plans. They still aim to launch both products in the first half of the year, but aren’t ready to share specific dates or prices just yet.
When we first announced these products in November, we expected to have pricing and release dates for you by now. However, like many others in the industry, we’ve been significantly impacted by recent shortages and rising costs of key components like memory and storage. This means we need to re-evaluate our shipping plans and pricing, particularly for the Steam Machine and Steam Frame.
We’re still aiming to release all three products in the first half of the year. However, we need to finalize pricing and launch dates before we can announce them, as these things can shift quickly. We’ll share updates as soon as everything is confirmed.
A Steam Machine Delay Isn’t a Bad Thing

Valve hasn’t officially called it a delay, but it looks like the Steam Machine won’t be released as originally planned. When first announced, it was expected in early 2026, specifically by the end of March. Now, with the release window extended to the first half of 2026, it’s clear something has shifted with the project’s development.
The delay of the Steam Machine isn’t necessarily a setback. Valve is counting on it to be a significant step forward for the company, much like the Steam Deck was. If the Steam Machine is too expensive for most people, it might fail immediately. Getting the price right is crucial for Valve to establish this new technology and change how people play PC games.
If you’re thinking about buying a Steam Machine, be prepared for a significant cost – it could easily be several hundred dollars, and potentially over a thousand. Even before recent price considerations, the Steam Machine was always expected to be expensive. So, if you plan to pre-order one, it’s best to start saving now.
