Fans of Venom might be disappointed if they’re hoping to see Tom Hardy’s character join the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It seems a return isn’t likely.
Tom Hardy starred as Eddie Brock/Venom in all three of Sony’s Venom films. While these movies exist in Sony’s own Spider-Man Universe—separate from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU)—Eddie Brock briefly appeared in the MCU during a scene after the credits of the movie Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Although it appeared Venom died in Venom: The Last Dance, fans are wondering if Tom Hardy’s Eddie Brock will be back. Sony doesn’t currently have firm plans for future Spider-Man Universe movies beyond Spider-Noir, so if they want to keep using the character, Eddie might have to move over to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
What is the update on Venom and Tom Hardy’s return to the MCU?
According to entertainment scooper Alex Perez from The Cosmic Circus, a return for Matt Hardy to the Marvel Cinematic Universe isn’t likely. Perez responded to a question on Twitter, stating that it’s no longer planned. He added that while the symbiote will still appear in future projects after Black and White Night, it will eventually need a different host.
Marvel and Sony haven’t officially confirmed whether the Venom symbiote will appear in the upcoming Spider-Man 4 (also known as Spider-Man: Brand New Day), but that’s likely because details about the movie’s plot are still secret. Rumors have spread, partly because actor Michael Mando (who plays Scorpion) hinted at something potentially happening on Instagram. Fans are also speculating that Tom Holland’s Spider-Man might merge with the Venom symbiote in the ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ movie, since the original ‘Secret Wars’ comic book introduced Spider-Man’s black suit.
As a huge Marvel fan, I’ve been thinking about how they could bring Venom into the MCU, and it’s actually pretty clever! Since a little bit of Venom was left in the Sacred Timeline when he went back to Sony’s universe, Marvel could totally use the symbiote without needing Tom Hardy right away. But here’s the thing – Hardy is the voice of Venom (with some help from Brad Venable), so if they want the symbiote to talk, they might have to find a new voice actor, which would be a shame!
Spider-Man: Brand New Day arrives on July 31, 2026.
