On social media, voice actor David Wald has alleged that Crunchyroll tampered with mail containing fan gifts sent to him through their service.
“Dear friends: if you sent me anything care of Funimation or Crunchyroll in the last 5 years, I apologize, I didn’t get it. I learned yesterday that Crunchyroll opened my private mail, threw away your letters, and passed out any included items to their staff,” Wald wrote.
Currently, the anime community finds themselves fixated on Crunchyroll due to the recent controversy. Despite the allegations, Wald remains unyielding, and as reported by Crunchyroll themselves, they are actively investigating the claim.
David Wald Accuses Crunchyroll of Mail Tampering

He suggests that the contents of his mail were either discarded or distributed among company staff as presents.
In a recent post, Wald, one of our team members at Crunchyroll, shared a photo of the contents from a package addressed to him, which had been opened and distributed among employees. If any of you have it, he kindly asks for its return as it belongs to him.
It seems likely that the employees thought the items were available for free, so they picked them up. The management appears to be responsible for making this decision.
Wald went on to levy other comments against Crunchyroll in a series of X (Twitter) posts, reading:

Crunchyroll Is Now Investigating Wald’s Claims
In response to the claims brought forward by Wald, Crunchyroll has issued a statement through their representative. Here’s what they had to say:
Enthusiasts of anime hold a unique bond with the voice artists behind their favorite characters, as emotional delivery greatly enhances their affection for the content. At present, we’re looking into claims that some fan mail was not delivered to a specific voice actor. We value the confidentiality of all our voice actors and do not typically handle mail or packages not designated for Crunchyroll. Fans are advised to send correspondence directly to the talent and their management.
At present, Wald claims that certain of his possessions were returned to him following discovery on the company’s freebie table, and he aims to recover the remaining losses. Concerning Crunchyroll, they are currently investigating this matter. Wald has made serious allegations against Crunchyroll as tampering with mail is a criminal offense, and organizations can face heavy fines for such activities along with court orders for restitution.
