Victoria Beckham knew she had to get with her stylish friends.
I was so surprised to learn why Mel B decided to have her breast implants removed! Apparently, it was all down to a conversation she had with Roland Mouret, a designer friend of hers. He advised her it might be beneficial for launching her fashion career, and she took his advice. It’s amazing to hear how a friend’s support can impact such a personal decision, especially after having them for so long since the ’90s.
Victoria explained in a recent interview with *The Sun* that her past behavior stemmed from a desire for respect and a struggle with her identity. She credits Roland with helping her embrace authenticity and stop feeling pressured to maintain a certain persona, encouraging her to simply be herself and relax.
The 51-year-old joked about a physical change, saying she wasn’t sure what happened, but credited her work with Roland for the transformation. She expressed deep gratitude for his support, stating she wouldn’t have had the career she has without him.
Victoria Beckham, known for the hit song “Wannabe,” talked about her fashion choices in the 1990s. She and her husband, David Beckham, have four children: Brooklyn, 26, Romeo, 23, Cruz, 20, and Harper, 14.
After the Spice Girls, I spent a long time trying to figure out what I wanted to do with my life, and I just didn’t know. I think that’s why I experimented with my look – lots of hair extensions, revealing clothes, and fake tan, though I still enjoy a tan sometimes.
Now that Victoria is a well-known name in fashion, she views her work as a creative outlet, explaining, “It’s great because I can express myself through my designs.”
Victoria Beckham admits she cringes at some of her past outfits, but she cherishes the memories associated with them. She revisited these moments with fondness in her new Netflix documentary, *Victoria Beckham*.
She recalled enjoying that time in her life. She said she and the other women embraced a glamorous style, with big hair and bodies, and loved shopping for designer clothes. She remembered one wife buying so much that she actually couldn’t get through the revolving doors of a hotel in Baden-Baden with all her purchases.
Victoria explained that she wasn’t feeling creatively satisfied at the time, and that’s why she continued to participate.

Victoria Adams, also known as Posh Spice, married David Beckham in 1999. At the time, she had an 18-month-old son, Brooklyn, and was performing with the Spice Girls. That November, the group made their final public appearance as the original lineup at the MTV Europe Music Awards. When the Spice Girls took a break (and eventually broke up in 2001), Victoria admitted she wasn’t sure what her next step would be.
In the 2025 Netflix documentary *Victoria Beckham*, she described her family as “amazing,” but admitted she felt isolated and things had slowed down. She recalled wondering if anyone would ever ask her to travel for photoshoots again, and feeling lost about her future.
David, who figured his wife could use rest, soon realized that what she really needed was purpose.
He admitted that while his own life remained consistent – he kept working and pursuing his passions – things changed dramatically for her. He now recognizes he didn’t fully understand how difficult that transition was for her at the time.
Victoria says she and her husband often joke about the intense public attention she received, like being weighed on television just six months after giving birth to Brooklyn in March 1999. However, she admits she was very young at the time, and it was actually quite hurtful.
It really shook my confidence and made me dislike who I was becoming. It consumed me, and I lost touch with reality. I became overly critical of myself and didn’t recognize the person I saw in the mirror. People have described me as everything from overweight to extremely thin, and it was a difficult experience.
Being too thin was seen as just as much of a problem as being overweight, and Victoria felt powerless to stop the constant scrutiny of her body. This led her to take extreme and unhealthy measures to control her weight. She admitted that living with an eating disorder meant becoming skilled at deception, and she kept it hidden from her parents and the public. Victoria explained that being repeatedly told she wasn’t good enough had a lasting impact on her, something she’s struggled with throughout her life.
In the documentary, Victoria revealed she intentionally sought media attention to remain relevant after the family relocated to Spain in 2003 following David’s transfer to Real Madrid.
While living in Spain, David and Victoria Beckham faced constant negative press, with tabloids claiming their marriage was failing due to rumors of David’s infidelity – a scandal briefly mentioned in Victoria Beckham’s autobiography but explored in detail in the 2023 Netflix documentary *Beckham*. At the same time, Victoria was also navigating her own identity after achieving fame with the Spice Girls.
She described feeling lost and unhappy, like she was stuck. While grateful for her life, she realized she needed something to strive for. She recalled making a promise to herself: if she ever got another chance, she wouldn’t let it slip away.
Victoria shared in her Netflix series that after starting her fashion label in 2008, she invited Anna Wintour to her runway shows every season, but the Vogue editor-in-chief never actually attended.
Anna confirmed she would attend in September 2013 and sat in the front row with David and their two-year-old daughter, Harper Beckham, when Victoria presented her spring 2014 collection at New York Fashion Week.
Anna explained that she initially saw Victoria Beckham as a member of the Spice Girls and appreciated her fashion sense. However, she admitted she didn’t immediately take Victoria’s design ambitions seriously, assuming it might just be a passing interest. ‘Most celebrities who enter the fashion world aren’t genuine designers,’ she said, ‘so I wasn’t sure this was a real commitment.’
Anna, who left her position as editor-in-chief of *Vogue* in June 2025 but still holds leadership roles at Condé Nast, admitted in the documentary that she initially doubted the trend, explaining that people in the fashion industry, herself included, can sometimes be dismissive of things that don’t seem serious or mainstream.
But, she added, “Victoria was one that totally proved us wrong.”
By 2016, Victoria had become a successful and recognized designer, but she admitted things were starting to fall apart. In a recent series, she described her fashion brand’s situation as a snowball rapidly gaining momentum and heading for disaster.
David invested a lot of money in his wife’s company, but he never received any return on his investment, he said. He explained that they had always agreed to support each other, but he was concerned because the business wasn’t financially viable in the long term.
Looking back, Victoria admitted they had spent far too much money and were deeply in debt – millions of pounds over budget. She felt lost and didn’t know how to fix the situation.
She admitted that despite years of ignoring criticism, the reports about her fashion brand struggling weren’t malicious – they were simply true. She had to accept the difficult situation, describing it as feeling like she was stuck in quicksand and falling into a deep hole.
Honestly, it was really tough for me to discuss the difficulties I was facing with my business to my husband. I really disliked those conversations! But I had to keep him in the loop, since he’d invested in it with me, and it felt important he knew what was going on.
I’ve always known David and Victoria had a really interesting dynamic when they first got together. Apparently, Victoria was actually the wealthier one back in 1997 – she even bought their first house, which everyone nicknamed ‘Beckingham Palace’! Because of that, I can only imagine how difficult it must have been for her to ever have to ask him for financial help. He’s spoken about how tough it was for her, and it always struck me as something she really wrestled with.
He shared that a portion of their conversation was deeply upsetting because Victoria is a very proud person. He also explained it was a difficult moment for both of them, as he lacked the financial resources to continue supporting their arrangement.
Let me tell you, when Victoria was facing some challenges, I – David Belhassen, from Neo Investment Partners – wasn’t immediately convinced to invest. We ended up taking a significant stake back in 2017, and thankfully helped get things back on track, but honestly, my first reaction was a firm ‘no’. It took some convincing!
He described the situation as a complete failure, explaining that the venture never turned a profit. He added that, honestly, he’d never encountered a more difficult problem to resolve.
Belhassen explained that he had a change of heart after praising his wife’s outfit one evening and discovering she was wearing Victoria Beckham – and was a big fan of the designer.
He explained that he first needed to know if she could truly accept the situation. He said that for years, people had only told her what she *wanted* to hear, not necessarily the truth.
According to Belhassen, the company was wasting money on things like $70,000 annually for office plants, and another $15,000 to pay someone to water them.
Victoria admitted in the doc that her “entertainment background” led to overindulging.
Looking back, the amount of waste was shocking,” she explained. “I remember having fifteen different inner linings for our jackets…and incredibly unnecessary things like shipping chairs from across the globe. Hearing about it now, I’m appalled that I let it happen. I think a big part of the issue was that people were too afraid to disagree with me.
Per Fashion Network, Victoria Beckham emerged from the red in 2022.
