Victoria Beckham knew what she wanted, what she really, really wanted.
Victoria Beckham, in her new Netflix documentary, shared that she wanted to be recognized more for her fashion work than for her time in the Spice Girls. However, this seemed to upset her former bandmate, Melanie “Mel B” Brown.
Victoria, formerly known as Posh Spice, shared a memory from the docuseries. She explained that Melanie B once told her, ‘Don’t forget where you’ve come from,’ and that the comment had bothered her recently.
Okay, seriously, I’ll never get over this! He’s 51, but he *still* remembers everything! He said he’s never, ever forgotten where he started, and honestly, it’s all thanks to Posh Spice! He admitted she could be a little… intense, but he thinks she was amazing. It’s just… everything! I knew it! Posh Spice is a legend, and he finally said it!
TopMob News has reached out to Mel B’s rep for comment but has not heard back yet.
Victoria said being Posh Spice was important to her, but it was the Spice Girls’ 2008 reunion tour that really showed her how much she loved fashion.
Victoria Beckham said she enjoyed celebrating the Spice Girls, but touring with them made her realize she no longer felt passionate about performing on stage. While she had fun, it wasn’t what she wanted to do anymore.
It’s amazing, but it was actually the Spice Girls themselves – Geri, Emma, and Mel C – who really pushed me to go after what I wanted. They were the ones who believed in my dream from the start and encouraged me to pursue it!
Victoria Beckham shared that the Spice Girls always encouraged her to pursue her passions. She’d always loved fashion and wanted to work in the industry, and she felt ready for a new challenge.
The shift wasn’t simple, though. Victoria was widely known as a pop singer and as the wife of soccer icon David Beckham, and together they have four children: Brooklyn, 26, Romeo, 23, Cruz, 20, and Harper, 14.
Victoria admitted the fashion world could be exclusive. She realized that to move forward, she needed to reinvent herself and shed any false pretenses.
Victoria decided to focus on what truly mattered and approached her work with renewed dedication. She streamlined her life, aiming for simplicity and grace, and then fully committed herself to the task at hand.
Despite her huge success in fashion now, she remains close to her former Spice Girls bandmates. Geri Halliwell (Ginger Spice), Emma Bunton (Baby Spice), and Mel C (Sporty Spice) all attended the London premiere of her Netflix series on October 8th.

Victoria Adams, also known as Posh Spice, married David Beckham in 1999 and had a young son, Brooklyn, who was 18 months old. That same year, the Spice Girls – in what turned out to be their final performance with the original lineup – appeared at the MTV Europe Music Awards. When the group took a break in 2000 and eventually split in 2001, Victoria admitted she wasn’t sure what her next steps would be.
In the 2025 Netflix documentary *Victoria Beckham*, she described her family as “amazing,” but admitted she felt isolated and things had slowed down. She recalled wondering if anyone would hire her for photoshoots again, and struggling with what her next step would be.
David, who figured his wife could use rest, soon realized that what she really needed was purpose.
He admitted that while his own life remained consistent—he kept working and doing what he enjoyed—her life changed significantly. He now understands that this was a difficult experience for her, but he didn’t fully recognize it at the time.
Victoria Beckham says she and her family now joke about the intense media attention she received after giving birth to Brooklyn in March 1999, including being weighed on television. However, she admits she was very young at the time, and the experience was actually quite painful.
It really shook my confidence and self-esteem. I let it get to me, and I started to question who I was. Looking in the mirror felt strange – I felt disconnected from reality. I was incredibly self-critical and didn’t recognize the person I saw. People have described me in so many ways, from ‘Porky Posh’ to ‘Skinny Posh’.
Being considered too thin was just as problematic as being seen as overweight. Because Victoria couldn’t stop the media from commenting on her body, she began to dangerously control her weight, as she later revealed. She explained that people with eating disorders become skilled at deception, and she kept her struggles hidden from both her parents and the public. Constant criticism and feeling inadequate had a lasting impact on her, something she’s carried throughout her life.
In the documentary, Victoria revealed she deliberately sought media attention to remain relevant after the family relocated to Spain in 2003 following David’s move to Real Madrid.
While living in Spain, David and Victoria Beckham faced constant negative press, with tabloids falsely claiming David was having affairs – a difficult period touched upon in Victoria Beckham’s book and explored in detail in the 2023 Netflix documentary *Beckham*. At the same time, Victoria was also working to define her own identity after the huge success of the Spice Girls.
She described feeling lost and unhappy, like her life had stalled. While she was grateful for what she had, she realized she needed to find something meaningful to focus on. She recalled making a promise to herself that if she ever got another chance, she wouldn’t let it slip away.
Victoria shared in her Netflix series that after starting her fashion label in 2008, she invited Anna Wintour to her runway shows every season, but the Vogue editor-in-chief never actually attended.
Anna confirmed she would attend in September 2013 and sat in the front row with David and their two-year-old daughter, Harper Beckham, when Victoria presented her spring 2014 collection at New York Fashion Week.
Anna explained that she initially saw Victoria Beckham as a member of the Spice Girls and appreciated her fashion sense. However, she was skeptical about Beckham becoming a designer, assuming it might just be a passing interest. ‘Most celebrities who enter the fashion world aren’t actual designers,’ she said, ‘so I didn’t immediately believe she was serious about it.’
Anna, who left her position as editor-in-chief of *Vogue* in June 2025 but still holds leadership roles at Condé Nast, admitted in the documentary that she initially doubted the trend, as people in the fashion industry—including herself—can sometimes be dismissive of things that don’t fit their established ideas.
But, she added, “Victoria was one that totally proved us wrong.”
By 2016, Victoria had become a successful and award-winning designer, but she admitted things were starting to fall apart. In a recent series, she described her fashion brand’s situation as being like ‘a snowball rolling downhill, gaining speed and becoming uncontrollable’.
David invested a lot of money in his wife’s company, but never received any return on his investment, he said. He remembered they’d always promised to support each other, but he was concerned because the business wasn’t financially stable.
Looking back, Victoria admitted they had spent a lot of money unnecessarily and were deeply in debt – millions of pounds over budget. She felt lost and didn’t know how to fix the situation.
She admitted that, despite years of ignoring criticism, the reports about her fashion brand facing difficulties weren’t malicious – they were simply true. She had to accept the situation and deal with it, feeling as though she was stuck in a difficult and inescapable situation.
She really disliked discussing her business problems with her husband, but she felt she had to, since he had a financial stake in it.
David recalled that his wife had significantly more money than he did when they met in 1997, and she actually purchased their Hertfordshire home, famously known as “Beckingham Palace.” Because of this, he understood how difficult it was for her to ask him for financial help.
He shared that a portion of their conversation was deeply upsetting because Victoria is a very proud person. He also explained it was a difficult moment for both of them, as he lacked the financial resources to continue supporting their situation.
David Belhassen, of Neo Investment Partners, initially wasn’t interested in investing in Victoria. His firm purchased a third of the business in 2017 and later helped improve its financial situation, but he originally opposed the idea.
He described the situation as a complete failure, explaining that the venture never turned a profit. He added that he’d rarely encountered a more difficult problem to resolve.
Belhassen explained that he had a change of heart after noticing his wife was wearing Victoria Beckham – and really loved the designer – when he complimented her one evening.
He explained that he first needed to know if she could truly accept the situation. For a long time, people had only told her things she wanted to believe, and he needed to gauge if she could handle the truth.
According to Belhassen, the company was wasting money – around $70,000 annually on office plants, plus another $15,000 to pay someone to water them.
Victoria admitted in the doc that her “entertainment background” led to overindulging.
Looking back, I was shocked by how much waste there was,” she explained. “I ordered fifteen different linings for jackets, and we did things like ship chairs from across the globe. Hearing about it now, I’m appalled that I let it happen. I think a big part of the issue was that people were too afraid to disagree with me.
Per Fashion Network, Victoria Beckham emerged from the red in 2022.
