Frida Gustavsson, a Swedish model and actress known for her role as Freydís Eiríksdóttir in the Netflix series Vikings: Valhalla, is being considered to play a major DC superhero. It seems she might be swapping her sword for a lasso!
A fan account on X, @Diana_Prince41, noticed that Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman director, Patty Jenkins, liked an Instagram comment asking who would want to play Wonder Woman. While some fans on X found this interesting, others pointed out Jenkins often likes numerous comments on posts, so it might not mean much. She didn’t respond to the comment directly, leaving her opinion on taking on the role unknown. However, many people in her position would likely be interested in the opportunity.
Wonder Woman’s DCU Future

DC Comics
It’s common for actors to express interest in playing superhero roles. For example, Madelaine Petsch, known for Riverdale, has said she’d love to play Jean Grey in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s upcoming X-Men reboot. Hudson Williams, from Heated Rivalry, subtly campaigned for the role of Nightwing by posting a photo with a related comic and tagging James Gunn. Brandon Sklenar, of The Housemaid, has been openly hoping to be cast as Batman in the DC Universe. While actress Gustavsson hasn’t directly stated her desire to play Wonder Woman, the role is currently open, as the future of the character within the DCU is still being decided.
Following the cancellation of Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman 3 starring Gal Gadot in December 2022, James Gunn, co-chair of the DC Universe, revealed plans for an HBO series called Paradise Lost. This series will explore the history of the Amazons, Wonder Woman’s people, before she was born. Wonder Woman also briefly appeared in Creature Commandos, possibly in a glimpse of the future, and the show introduced Circe, a sorceress who says she’s from Wonder Woman’s home island, Themyscira. More recently, in 2025, Ana Nogueira, a writer for Supergirl, was hired to write a script for a new DCU Wonder Woman movie, though details about when it might be released and who will be involved haven’t been announced yet.
