Despite what many people believe, Vin Diesel and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson have put their past disagreements behind them. Diesel recently took to social media to publicly commend both Johnson and retired MMA fighter Mark Kerr (whom Johnson portrayed in the film The Smashing Machine), expressing how proud he is of their achievements.
Vin Diesel shared a heartfelt message about the importance of friendship, posting a photo with his Fast & Furious colleague. He reminisced about how Kerr, who trained him for the 2002 film xXx, was one of his earliest friends in Hollywood, noting Kerr was there as his action movie career began. Diesel also praised Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson for his portrayal of Kerr in a recent sports drama, calling it a moment to ‘celebrate’ Johnson’s work. Kerr was recently inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame.
He explained that maintaining a public image is a constant effort, speaking about the former wrestler and how their work together started with a fan suggestion on social media. He described their collaboration in the Fast & Furious films as a powerful and memorable partnership, where both individuals challenged and inspired each other.
The actor not only praised their on-screen chemistry but also admired Dwayne Johnson‘s portrayal of Luke Hobbs. He said Johnson fully committed to the role and created a memorable character for Universal Pictures.
Honestly, Vin Diesel’s post really got to me. He kept emphasizing how much Mark Kerr deserved this recognition… and how incredible Dwayne Johnson was in pulling it all off. He said Dwayne truly transported us back in time and absolutely killed it while doing so.
Diesel and Johnson First Settled Their Conflict Several Years Ago
The exact cause of the conflict, which became public during the filming of The Fate of the Furious in the summer of 2016, is still unknown. Many people have suggested that large egos played a role. John Cena, who played Jakob Toretto, acknowledged the rumors, saying, “I can’t deny that. When you have two strong, ambitious personalities, there can only be one leader.”
The actor’s sincere message on Instagram isn’t the only sign that the two stars have resolved their issues. Back in June 2023, Johnson announced on X that he would be returning to his role, confirming that he and Diesel had overcome their well-known disagreement.
Last summer, Vin Diesel and I resolved our differences,” Johnson said. “From then on, we both focused on protecting the ‘Fast & Furious’ films, the characters, and most importantly, the fans. Putting the audience first has always been the most important thing to me, and that will continue to guide my decisions.”
Fast X: Part 2 is slated to hit theaters in 2027.
