Virgin River season 7 ending explained: Does [SPOILER] die?

*Warning: Contains MAJOR spoilers for Virgin River season 7!*

Virgin River is usually a heartwarming and romantic show, but it’s especially good at creating emotional moments, particularly at the end of each season.

Season 7 of Virgin River brought a lot of changes for its characters. Mel and Jack began the process of adopting a child, and Jack also worked with Preacher to help him launch his dream of opening a restaurant.

In season 7, much of Mel’s storyline revolves around building a house and dealing with uncertainty about her pregnancy. Actress Amanda Breckenridge told Tudum that this is something her character has desired for years, and that Mel handles the challenges with resilience throughout the season.

Lizzie (Sarah Dugdale) and Denny (Kai Bradbury) are adjusting to life with their new baby. Lizzie, in particular, finds it challenging and experiences anxiety after the birth.

However, the season finale was completely unexpected and left viewers with even more unanswered questions than they had at the start of season 7!

Curious about what happened in the Virgin River season 7 finale? Keep reading to find out! But be careful – this contains major spoilers!

Virgin River season 7 ending explained: Does Brady die?

Things were finally looking up for Brady (Ben Hollingsworth). He and Brie (Zibby Allen) had rekindled their romance and were now openly a couple.

Early in the season, Brady was searching for Lark, hoping to recover some money she owed him. After finding her, he realized she and Hazel would be better off with the funds, so he went back to Virgin River.

Following a close call with the Yosemite wildfires, Brady considers new job options as he and Brie at last share how they truly feel about each other.

What stood out to Smith was Brie’s ability to move forward and embrace who she is now, rather than trying to be the person she was before the attack. She’s learning to accept herself as she is today – the person Brady is attracted to – and he’s doing the same for her.

Things were looking good, and after promising Brie he’d make dinner, he headed over on his motorcycle.

While riding his motorcycle, he spotted a truck parked on the roadside and tried to avoid it, but ended up sliding off the bike. The scene then cuts to the delivery of Mel and Jack’s adopted baby, leaving Brady’s condition unknown.

Right now, we don’t know what will happen to Brady, and viewers won’t find out if he lives or dies until season 8.

Smith confirmed to Tudum that season 8 will reveal whether the character survived the accident.

Do Mel and Jack adopt a baby?

Things were well and truly looking up for Mel and Jack following their wedding day.

During the sixth season, the show introduced Marley (Rachel Drance), a woman expecting a baby she intended to give up for adoption. However, her initial plans with the prospective adoptive parents fell through, and in season seven, she asked Mel if she would consider adopting her baby instead.

After a lot of discussion and considering all options, including briefly thinking about raising the baby herself, Marley ultimately agreed to let Mel and Jack adopt.

However, things become difficult when Marley needs specialized medical attention, and doctors discover a heart problem. The season ends with Marley being born, and Mel and Jack rushing to the NICU to be with their son.

Breckenridge told Tudum she’s looking forward to seeing Mel become a mother, something fans have been anticipating for a while. She also hopes things will eventually return to normal for the characters.

Does Preacher leave Virgin River?

Despite a few moments where it appears he might, Preacher doesn’t actually leave Virgin River. Jack helps him by buying out his share of the bar so Preacher can open his own restaurant.

Following a great review in Food & Wine magazine, Jack’s Bar suddenly became very crowded with people eager to sample Preacher’s cooking. Preacher saw this as an opportunity to expand his kitchen into more of the bar to serve even more customers, but Jack wasn’t sure it was a good idea.

Jack is expecting a baby and recently hired Clay to help with the farm, so he can’t risk closing the bar on a whim. They agree that Jack will buy Preacher’s share of the bar, allowing Preacher to pursue his next venture.

According to actor Dominic Cooper, throughout the six seasons of Preacher, his character has consistently prioritized others. However, this season marks a turning point. Cooper explained to Tudum that Preacher is now focused on his own goals and personal growth, and is actively pursuing what he wants.

What happens between Doc and Hope?

Oh, Hope and Doc – will they ever see eye-to-eye for one whole season?

The season finale features a big argument between Hope and Doc, during which Doc confesses he contacted the Grace Valley mobile clinic to assist with Mel and Jack’s baby. He also shares his desire to explore a potential working relationship with them down the line.

Hope is upset, particularly because she already gathered signatures at the Founder’s Day celebration to prevent out-of-town businesses from operating in Virgin River.

Hope and Doc will continue to deal with their conflict throughout season 8, and a major focus will be whether they can reconcile.

Smith explained to Tudum that things aren’t looking great. Doc is forced to return to the clinic – the place he started the series. Meanwhile, Hope ends up back at Roland’s ranch, where she discovers some fascinating details about her father’s past.

Doc and Hope are really estranged right now, and a major focus of season 8 will be whether they can reconcile.
