In late November, Xbox held a preview event highlighting games from its publishing partners. This included a first look at Plot Twist – the Polish studio known for their acclaimed 2023 indie game, The Last Case of Benedict Fox – and a new indie publisher called Lyrical Games.
In 2026, Xbox and PC players will get a new roguelike game called *Erosion*, which is set in the Wild West and is being created through a partnership between several game studios.
Erosion starts with a classic setup: a father must rescue his daughter after she’s kidnapped by a ruthless warlord. This warlord imprisons her within a strange, living Pillar that can manipulate time. While the core story of a rescue mission is familiar, Erosion adds some interesting and original elements to the mix.
Every time someone dies, time jumps forward ten years, altering the world around you. This also affects your daughter, who grows older with each passing decade. This creates a real limit to how many times you can die in Erosion if you hope to rescue her – take too long, and she might not be there to save.
The trailer for Erosion showcases this core gameplay feature. It opens with a heartwarming scene: a hero is joyfully greeted by a young girl who believes he’s her father. This quickly shifts as the girl ages into a frustrated young woman asking why he took so long to return. The trailer culminates in a poignant moment: an elderly woman falls into her father’s embrace, then transforms into flower petals carried away by the wind.

As the main character’s daughter grows up, the game world of Erosion also changes. Players explore a vast, open wasteland built from voxels, and their decisions actually shape and alter this environment.
If you damage a building in a fight, it could be gone years later. In fact, the whole town might become a faded memory of what it once was.
Erosion isn‘t just about fighting for survival. You can also choose to help the people you meet, though your good deeds might have surprising and funny results. For example, assisting a shopkeeper at the beginning of the game could turn their small business into a major power later on. Or, you might accidentally help a farm become the base for a strange cult dedicated to a giant rooster.
Erosion is a town built on risk, and that’s especially true at Al Cashino, the local casino, where you can play games of chance to your heart’s content.

Erosion’s landscape is full of life and chances to test your skills. You can fish in the sands and discover unusual creatures hidden beneath the surface. Find a vehicle and race across the salt flats for a thrilling experience with big payouts.
Take on the role of a skilled bounty hunter, earning rewards by capturing criminals. You can also challenge enemies to duels, but be warned: if someone dies in a duel, ten years pass. So make sure your aim is accurate!
When it comes to character customization, Erosion offers a huge variety – you can pick from dozens of weapons and build your character with over a hundred different skills and enhancements. Combining these creates some incredibly powerful and unique combinations.
Erosion lets you reshape a world made of colorful cubes however you want. You can launch ‘orbital ferrets’ to demolish buildings, turning them into piles of rubble. If you prefer, equip the Ebony Rooster – a powerful weapon that fires bouncing, cube-shaped eggs – and challenge the warlord. Or, if you’re feeling less ambitious, just cause some chaos by flipping tables!

In Erosion, you’ll navigate a dynamic world where your actions directly impact the future. The game challenges you to control and reshape the timeline, allowing you to explore every possible outcome. By exploring and completing quests, you’ll gain permanent upgrades that let you influence the story based on your choices and how you play.
Plot Twist and Lyrical Games will launch their game, Erosion, through Early Access on PC in early 2026, using a similar strategy to 11 bit studios. Players can access it via Xbox PC and Steam. The game is also planned for release on Xbox Series X|S consoles later in 2026. While the exact price isn’t known yet, Erosion will be available to PC Game Pass subscribers from day one.
We’d love to hear your thoughts on Erosion! Are you planning to play? Please take our poll and share your feedback in the comments.
