Following the launch of Update 2.3, Cyberpunk 2077 now boasts comprehensive Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) compatibility with both PS5 and PS5 Pro consoles. Interestingly, activating this setting leads to noticeably improved performance.
Based on a recent analysis by Digital Foundry, it appears that the VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) performance exceeds anticipations, particularly on the Pro version.
In simpler terms, Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) technology works by synchronizing your gaming console with your TV or monitor. This helps to prevent problems such as screen tearing and improves the overall frame rate performance.
In the context of Cyberpunk, the Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) feature eliminates the game’s 60 frames-per-second limit when set to Performance mode. This allows for a frame rate that can soar up to 120fps in certain scenarios on PS5 Pro, and according to Digital Foundry’s tests, it consistently averages around 81fps. In other words, the gameplay becomes more fluid or smoother with VRR enabled.
In a fair comparison, it seems the standard PS5 also experiences the benefit of Variable Refresh Rate (VRR), averaging at approximately 63fps. While this isn’t as remarkable as the enhancement on Pro models, it’s still a notable improvement that’s particularly noticeable when racing through Night City.
This significant enhancement is certainly something noteworthy, particularly if your display supports Variable Refresh Rate (VRR). It leaves us pondering if there might be further advancements in the future. However, it’s important to note that while a PS5 Pro update isn’t entirely out of the question, it may still be some distance away. Let’s not jump to conclusions just yet!
