Pete Davidson first gained widespread recognition in 2014 when he joined the cast of Saturday Night Live. Since then, he’s dealt with the challenges of fame and has openly shared his experiences. Recently, the comedian talked about how quickly fans can lose interest in celebrities, using Pedro Pascal and Walton Goggins as examples. Goggins has now responded to Davidson’s observations.
What Exactly Did Pete Davidson Say About Fans’ Feelings Towards Him And Other Big Names?
The King of Staten Island actor discussed his thoughts while appearing on the This Past Weekend w/ Theo Von podcast, available on YouTube. Davidson explained that celebrities are initially adored by fans, but that popularity often shifts to dislike after a few years. As an example, Davidson brought up Pedro Pascal, who has worked in Hollywood for many years but only recently became widely known:
Seriously, look at Pedro Pascal now. Just two years ago, he was a hardworking, talented actor… He’d put in so much effort and was a struggling actor, and then he suddenly became incredibly famous. Everyone was calling him ‘Daddy!’ and then, a year later, he’s in everything because he’s considered attractive and popular, and people are telling him to go away!… You really have to give someone time to adjust to that new level of fame. He’s been working at this for 30 years, and now he’s learning how to do simple things like get a cup of coffee or deal with someone who taps you on the shoulder while you’re wearing earbuds and startles you.

Apparently, Walton Goggins nearly faced arrest! He was doing a photoshoot-in his bathing suit-and things got tricky when he decided to do it right in the middle of traffic. It sounds like a pretty wild situation!
Pedro Pascal has become very well-known thanks to a lot of acting roles recently. The Last of Us, The Mandalorian, Materialists, Eddington, The Fantastic Four: First Steps and Gladiator II are just some of the TV shows and movies he’s appeared in since 2019. Pascal was even called the Internet’s “zaddy” (and his The Last of Us co-star, Bella Ramsey, has a pretty strong opinion about that!). Despite how popular the Emmy-nominated actor has become, some people are now starting to express annoyance at how often he appears in big projects.
Walton Goggins is another experienced actor who’s become incredibly popular recently. Though he’s been working consistently for years, he’s landed significant television parts lately, including roles in The White Lotus, Fallout, Invincible, George & Tammy, The Righteous Gemstones, and others. Given Goggins’ current level of popularity, Davidson predicts he’ll be the next major actor to face public criticism:
It’s going to happen – Walton Goggins is next in line. People will be shocked, saying something like, ‘What the fuck?!’ We quickly praise people up, and then the change of opinion comes so rapidly.
So, Pete Davidson was on Theo Von’s podcast, and let me tell you, his comments really took off! It was only a matter of time before the person he was talking about – David Goggins himself – caught wind of it. I mean, with how much those comments spread, it wasn’t exactly a shock when he noticed what was being said, right? It’s kind of inevitable when you’re a public figure.
How Did Walton Goggins Respond To Pete Davidson’s Comments?
The Justified star took to his Instagram to share his response to the comments made on the podcast. Goggins shared a post that included a screenshot of THR’s article on the subject along with some pics from his trip to Paris. With his lengthy caption, Goggins said he “had to respond” after seeing the article and noted that Davidson (who he doesn’t know personally) was merely discussing his own experiences. He also agreed that Pascal is a “great man” and called him a “dear friend.” From there, Goggins said this:
Being 53, I’m very aware that everything has its time. I’m grateful to so many of you for joining me on this path. I realize a lot of you (and I understand why) might be getting tired of my lessons or advice. Honestly, I’m tired of repeating them myself! I do have a few things I need to discuss… not for my own benefit, but to acknowledge all the people who worked so hard to make these stories happen.
Walton Goggins – some have even called him a sex symbol – also said that fans are free to decide if they want to support him, and he’s grateful if they do. He explained why being featured in the article feels like a “blessing” rather than a “curse”:
To me, being featured in this headline isn’t something to worry about – it’s a wonderful opportunity! I feel incredibly fortunate that this is even happening. I’ve been lucky enough to have really interesting talks with many of you, and to work with some truly talented people from different fields over the past couple of years.
Walton Goggins ended his comments by saying he’s going to fully embrace and enjoy this period in his life. That’s perfectly reasonable, and as someone who admires his work, I appreciate his understanding of where he stands in the entertainment world. It’s really rewarding to see dedicated actors like him, Pedro Pascal and Pete Davidson, achieve success, and I hope they all keep flourishing and pursuing work they love.
