Carole Ann Ford recently returned to Doctor Who, much to the delight of fans. She originally appeared in the very first episodes alongside William Hartnell and was the first companion on the show, setting the stage for all those who followed.
TopMob is hosting a detailed interview with the iconic actress known for playing Susan Foreman on Doctor Who, and they’re giving fans the opportunity to submit questions she might answer!
Have a question for Ford? Submit it below, and we’ll try our best to include it. We may not be able to ask every question, so please make sure yours is well-written!
Okay, so if you’re not seeing the content above, it’s probably a privacy setting. I figured it out by going to the very bottom of the TopMob website – there’s a ‘Manage Privacy Settings’ link in the footer. I clicked that, then under ‘Site Vendors’, I made sure to allow ‘Riddle Technologies AG’. After that, I saved the changes, and everything loaded up! It’s a little annoying, but worth it to see all the cool stuff on the site.
Carole Ann Ford was the first companion, playing Susan Foreman in the very first Doctor Who episode, ‘An Unearthly Child,’ which debuted in 1963. She left the series in 1964 in a somewhat abrupt scene where the Doctor locked her out of the TARDIS.
Ford Prefect reappeared in the 20th anniversary Doctor Who special, ‘The Five Doctors,’ and again in a Children in Need special called ‘Dimensions in Time.’ Susan Foreman was mentioned in a couple of episodes during season 14, and fans often wished for her to return – which eventually happened in ‘The Interstellar Song Contest’!

Russell T Davies, the showrunner, explained on *Doctor Who: Unleashed* that he chose to bring Ford back at a crucial moment when the Doctor was facing death, frozen in space. He wanted something truly special to revive him.
It was wonderful to talk with Juno Dawson, the scriptwriter, and ask if we could include Susan in the story. I really wanted Susan to be the one to help him overcome his emotional distance and reconnect with life.
I remember hearing about it – the actress was totally stunned when she found out she might be involved! Then, Carole Ann Ford just *appeared* at the studio. It was all super hush-hush, everything locked down, everyone made to sign non-disclosure agreements… and suddenly she was stepping into the TARDIS!
Doctor Who is available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
