At the moment, DC Studios couldn’t be more successful. The latest Superman film is still drawing huge crowds and raking in money at the domestic box office. Even well-established Marvel films like Iron Man 2 and Thor: Ragnarok are stepping aside to make room for the Man of Steel, demonstrating that DC has just as much potential as its main rival. The competition will carry on next year with Supergirl and Clayface hitting theaters. Although James Gunn, the architect of the DC Universe, isn’t directing either of these films, they’re poised to capitalize on the momentum and keep propelling the new franchise forward.
As for Gunn’s future projects, he’s been quite secretive about them. However, it is known that his next film will feature David Corenswet as Superman. Yet, Gunn has kept most details under wraps. Contrastingly, Gunn’s superior at Warner Bros. Discovery, CEO David Zaslav, seems to prefer a more open approach, as he recently revealed some surprising information during the company’s recent earnings call.
During a discussion about the achievements of Superman, Zaslav hinted that Gunn will be at the helm for the upcoming film within the Superhero family (according to Variety). This isn’t a lot of information, considering earlier reports suggested that DC Studios is taking their time in producing a sequel to their blockbuster. Nevertheless, there’s a strong possibility that Gunn will bring his imaginative touch to create a movie that serves as a continuation for various projects.
The Future of the DCU Is Becoming Clearer By the Day

It seems that it would be a logical progression for the DC Universe (DCU) to bring together its Trinity – Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman – on screen as their individual stories unfold. However, at this stage, the creators are focusing on developing each character independently before they appear together.
Ana Nogueira is currently working on a script for Wonder Woman, while The Brave and the Bold, featuring Batman and his son Damian Wayne, is in development with The Flash director Andy Muschietti attached to direct.
After the two movies are finalized, there’s a possibility that Gunn might decide to introduce Superman to his fellow DC characters. For now, though, there’s a member of the Super family who needs assistance – Kara Zor-El. Milly Alcock’s brief portrayal in Superman hints at her character’s tough times, and although she’ll embark on her own self-discovery journey in her solo movie, it seems fitting that her cousin, Kal-El, could guide her through becoming a hero. In his next film, Gunn may bring together these two Kryptonians to confront a significant antagonist, like General Zod. This would be an excellent continuation of the Krypton revelation from Superman.
Superman is in theaters now.
