Waterloo Road star Will Rush dies aged 31, Coronation Street actress mum confirms

Former Waterloo Road star Will Rush has died at the age of 31.

The actor, originally from Manchester, who starred as Josh Stevenson in the BBC One drama series for four seasons from 2009 to 2013, died on December 17th.

Debbie, known for her ten years portraying Anna Windass on Coronation Street, shared a heartfelt tribute to her “beautiful baby boy” on Instagram.

We are devastated as a family, and no words can express how much we’re grieving,” she said.

It really struck me how, even facing his own end, William managed something incredible. Becoming an organ donor was such a selfless act, offering a real chance at life and hope to other families. It just shows the kind of person he was – always thinking of others, right until the very end. It’s a deeply moving thought, and honestly, it makes me appreciate the power of generosity even more.

He will always be remembered for his kindness and love. We appreciate your understanding and request privacy as we cope with this profound loss.

“William will always be loved, always missed, and forever in our hearts.”

Rush first became well-known as a child actor, appearing as Ali Duncan in the TV show Grange Hill. He then went on to have roles in other popular series like Shameless and Jimmy McGovern’s The Street.

The actor played the long-lost son of Tom Clarkson on Waterloo Road, and his storylines explored a complicated relationship with his father, his coming to terms with his sexuality, struggles with marijuana use, and a diagnosis of schizophrenia.

After leaving his previous role, Rush appeared in small roles on popular TV shows like Coronation Street, Casualty, and Vera. He also tried out for the 2016 season of The X Factor.

Debbie’s colleague, Sally Dynevor, expressed her shock and sadness upon hearing the news, sending Debbie her love and describing her son as a beautiful boy.

Katie McGlynn expressed her condolences, saying she was very sorry for Debbie and everyone affected. She remembered Will as a kind and cheerful person who always brightened people’s day, and sent her love and support.

Will is survived by parents Debbie and Andrew, and siblings Poppy and Tom.
