Way of the Warrior Kid Movie Starring Chris Pratt Gets Release Date

Apple gave viewers a first look at its new film, Way of the Warrior Kid, during Tuesday’s Apple TV Press Day. The film, directed by McG, is based on the book of the same name by Jocko Willink.

Jocko Willink announced that the movie adaptation of Way of the Warrior Kid will premiere worldwide on Apple TV on Friday, November 20th. The film features Chris Pratt, Linda Cardellini, and Jude Hill. Here’s what the movie is about:

Marc, a kind middle schooler, is having a tough time – he’s bullied, struggles in school and with sports, and feels lonely. Things start to look up when his uncle, Jake, a Navy SEAL recovering from an injury, comes to stay for the summer. Jake tries to help Marc build confidence, not by teaching him to fight, but through a program inspired by his military training, called ‘Operation Warrior Kid.’ As Jake helps Marc find his courage, he also confronts his own personal challenges.

McG, known for directing films like Charlie’s Angels and Terminator: Salvation, is directing Way of the Warrior Kid, based on a script by Will Staples. The film stars Chris Pratt, Rose Cardellini, Courtney Hill, and Jocko Willink, alongside Ava Torres, Levi McConaughey, Darien Sills-Evans, Carl McDowell, and Parker Young.

Way of the Warrior Kid Debuts on Apple TV in November

Way of the Warrior Kid is a collaboration between Apple and Skydance Media. David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Don Granger from Skydance are producing the project, alongside McG and Mary Viola of Wonderland Sound, Chris Pratt through Indivisible Productions, Ben Everard of Everard Entertainment, Bruce Wayne Gillies, and the book’s author, Jocko Willink. Will Staples, Steven Bello, and Cliff Lanning are serving as executive producers.

Chris Pratt praised the screenplay by Will Staples, calling it incredible. He was excited to read it because he’s known Jocko Willink, the author of the children’s books the film is based on, for a few years. Pratt believes in the importance of storytelling and felt a strong connection to this project. He hopes the movie will positively influence young viewers and guide them toward good choices, saying today’s youth really need a film like this. He envisions it becoming a classic for a new generation, similar to films like The Karate Kid and Rocky, and is particularly excited to share it with his own children. With a talented team and the right studio support, Pratt is confident they’ll make a great movie.

I was particularly excited to play Jake because he’s a character you don’t often see these days – a positive example of healthy masculinity, something many young people need. The role allowed me to show how Jake uses the lessons he learned as a Navy SEAL to help his nephew build confidence and overcome challenges like bullying and schoolwork. Having family and friends, including my brother, who served in the military, makes these kinds of stories especially meaningful to me. I’m drawn to projects that inspire people to confront their fears and become stronger, both inside and out.

Way of the Warrior Kid premieres on Apple TV on November 20.
