When I first dived into Civilization 7 upon its release, I was mostly enthusiastic about my new adventure. However, as I delved deeper, I found that a few key features were absent, and certain changes were quite debatable. Adjusting to these differences took some time, but overall, I still recommend giving it a try if you’re a fan of the series!
Despite Firaxis, the game’s developer, consistently updating the game post-release, it’s been observed that on PC, where it’s most played, it typically has fewer simultaneous users compared to Civilization 5 and Civilization 6. This isn’t an ideal situation.
According to Strauss Zelnick, Take-Two’s CEO, in an interview with IGN, he remains unfazed by the sequel’s long-term success, despite its sluggish initial launch.
I believe the essential point is that Civilization (Civ) has always been a gradual build-up. It’s a game that follows the concept, though I’m not entirely convinced by it, of the long tail in the entertainment industry. And at this moment, our predictions for the overall value of the game align well with our initial expectations.
Despite our initial slow progress and the necessary adjustments along the way, with more changes yet to come, there’s a growing sense of consumer acceptance that we find encouraging. Over time, I believe it will earn a prominent spot in the annals of its respective field, achieving success and credibility in a truly noteworthy manner.
Zelnick declined to reveal the exact number of units that Civilization VII has sold so far. However, he did mention that the sales figures are indeed showing a positive trend as the project progresses and matures further.
