More than a year and a half after its release in February 2024, Helldivers 2 is still one of the top and most-played multiplayer games available, despite many new shooters and co-op games being released.
Helldivers 2 has had a huge year in 2025! Starting with the massive ‘Battle for Super Earth’ event in the spring, it expanded to Xbox (though the launch had some server issues). A fantastic collaboration with Halo ODST, featuring new in-game content, and the recent ‘Into the Unjust’ update-which added challenging new enemies and sent players on a risky mission into dark, bug-infested lands-have made it a standout year for the game.
Helldivers 2 has been delivering lots of new content and an engaging overarching story with its Galactic War, but the game’s performance has gotten noticeably worse lately. Players on all systems are running into problems like crashes, big drops in framerate, stuttering, and sound cutting out.
The launch of ‘Into the Unjust’ made existing issues much worse, sparking a lot of complaints from players and a strong call for the developers, Arrowhead, to prioritize fixing the game’s technical problems. Arrowhead has now announced a big update next month to address these concerns, with further improvements to performance coming later on.
We’ve been listening to your feedback on Discord, forums, Reddit, and through our own data, and you’re right to ask for improvements. We know our recent updates haven’t been good enough, and we apologize for not responding sooner. We take full responsibility. We’ve read everything and are now working on a plan to fix these issues.
Arrowhead plans to release an update around mid-October to address major problems with crashes and missing weapon sounds. This update will also include many overdue bug fixes – including finally resolving the issue of silent Charger footsteps – along with some minor performance boosts and adjustments to balance gameplay.
The team behind Helldivers 2 said that fixing the game’s most significant performance problems will take time. They’re creating a comprehensive plan to tackle these issues, but they don’t want to release a quick fix that only provides a temporary solution. They explained that rushing an update would be like using a temporary patch instead of a proper repair, and could actually create more problems down the line.

We believe these changes will quickly lead to a noticeable improvement. We’ll also continue to address the most important issues you’ve brought to our attention.
Arrowhead promised to keep players better informed about what they’re working on and how things are done. They plan to share another update next week as part of this commitment to openness.
In short, we understand your concerns, we’re committed to improving things, and we’ll keep working on it and keeping you updated.

I’ve spent close to 600 hours playing Helldivers 2 since it launched, and I can definitely say the recent improvements to the game’s quality are a huge step in the right direction. While I haven’t had any game crashes, I’ve definitely noticed significant drops in performance when fighting large groups of enemies on the highest difficulty, and I’ve frequently run into issues with the sound cutting out.
I’m glad to see Arrowhead is actively working to fix the stability issues in Helldivers 2. While it’s disappointing that major fixes are still a few months away, hopefully the October update and any smaller patches released before then will provide a noticeable improvement until more substantial updates arrive.
We likely won’t have major fixes for a few months, but we’re hoping the October update and any smaller patches released before then will provide noticeable improvements in the meantime.
Regarding next month’s update, we expect the Rupture Strain to become available again when the update launches. This new group of enemies was temporarily removed due to player feedback – many players were frustrated by how often they burrowed underground and then attacked with moves that were very difficult to dodge.
The developers previously said the Rupture Strain would be re-introduced during the Galactic War in about five weeks, and that timeframe matches the expected release of the next update, which is planned for mid-October. Because of this, I believe Arrowhead will include the faction’s return in that update.
Helldivers 2 costs $40 and is available on Xbox Series X|S, PC (via Steam), and PlayStation 5. Right now, you can get it for $34.69 at Loaded (formerly CDKeys) as part of a special offer.
