Weapons Director Is Very Excited To See Everyone’s Aunt Gladys Costumes This Halloween, Including Sexy Aunt Gladys: ‘It’s All Legal’

With Halloween just around the corner, many people are already thinking about costumes. It’s likely we’ll see a lot of ‘Aunt Gladys’ costumes this year, inspired by the character from the movie *Weapons*, played by Amy Madigan. The film’s writer and director, Zach Cregger, is excited to see all the photos of these costumes popping up on social media.

Now that the movie *Weapons* is available to rent and buy, I recently interviewed the director. While we spent most of our time talking about a character named Aunt Gladys and how she almost made it into the film, I started by asking about how the movie might influence Halloween costumes in 2025. The director won’t be able to see the costumes himself – he’s currently filming a new *Resident Evil* movie overseas – but he’s excited for people to dress up. He shared with me,

I’m really excited for Halloween! It’s a shame I won’t be able to experience it firsthand – I’m currently in Prague. But I truly hope it’s a huge success this year; that would be fantastic.

Why is Aunt Gladys such a popular Halloween costume? It’s probably because of two main reasons. First, the movie *Weapons* was a huge success, and Amy Madigan’s amazing performance means almost everyone who saw it will instantly recognize the character.

The character’s striking look – featuring bold sunglasses, dramatic makeup, a bright red, short wig, and vibrant clothing – is actually quite easy to recreate using readily available clothes and accessories.

While some people will choose to simply dress as the character, others will likely get creative with variations. Zach Cregger is especially excited to see what people come up with – he even mentioned hoping to see someone attempt a ‘Sexy Aunt Gladys‘ costume when I suggested it.
