Wednesday Fans Can Watch The Addams Family Movies for Free (But There’s a Catch)

As a movie enthusiast who’s deeply in love with the macabre charm of the Addams Family, I’m thrilled to share some fantastic news! The second season of our beloved series, “Wednesday,” is still ruling the Netflix charts since its recent comeback. And guess what? While we’re all busy devouring the initial four episodes, there’s an added treat for us!

The classic movies, “The Addams Family” (1991) and “Addams Family Values” (1993), are now available to watch at no cost whatsoever! These timeless films serve as the perfect companions to “Wednesday” Season 2, Part 1. And here’s a little sneak peek for those of us eagerly waiting – Part 2 is set to premiere on September 3, 2025.

However, there’s a bit of a twist in this tale. While we have the opportunity to relive the Addams Family magic before Part 2 arrives, it’s important to note that the two movies might just leave you craving for more Addams Family adventures – and unfortunately, none are currently announced beyond Season 2! So grab some popcorn, settle in, and enjoy these spooktacular films!

The films based on the iconic Addams Family, specifically “The Addams Family” and “Addams Family Values,” are currently available for streaming on Hoopla. This service offers a wide range of content, including movies, music, ebooks, and more, but it’s important to note that you will need a library card to access this content, which includes both the Addams Family movies. Unlike the series “Wednesday” that primarily focuses on the macabre teen, these films delve into the lives of the entire Addams family, as created by cartoonist Charles Addams. The characters include Morticia Addams (Anjelica Huston), Gomez Addams (Raul Julia), Wednesday Addams (Christina Ricci), Pugsley Addams (Jimmy Workman), Uncle Fester (Christopher Lloyd), Grandmama (initially portrayed by Judith Malina and later by Carol Kane), Lurch (Carel Struycken), Thing (Christopher Hart), and Cousin Itt (John Franklin).

Under David Levy’s direction, the 1991 film “The Addams Family” marked the beginning of the movie franchise, based on the ’60s television series of the same name. In this film, the eccentric family finds themselves in the midst of a perplexing mystery and turmoil when their long-lost Uncle Fester suddenly reappears after 25 years. However, there’s reason to suspect that the man claiming to be part of the family might not actually be Uncle Fester. As this imposter manipulates corrupt lawyer Tully Alford (played by Dan Hedaya) to evict the Addams family from their home due to his inability to recall details about Fester’s life, Gomez is compelled to confront the imposter.

The film successfully introduced a new generation to the eerie Addams family and gave the franchise a fresh boost, as it turned out to be a massive hit that is now recognized as a timeless classic. Three years later, the sequel titled “Addams Family Values” was released, with its focus on the family adapting to the arrival of Gomez and Morticia’s newest dark child, baby Pubert (portrayed by Kaitlyn and Kristen Hooper). Directed by Barry Sonnenfeld and written by Paul Rudnick, this movie also achieved success, earning $111 million at the box office while costing only $47 million to produce.

For fans of The Addams Family who are eager for more after Netflix’s second season of Wednesday at Nevermore Academy this month, both The Addams Family and Addams Family Values make great watch choices. In Wednesday Season 2, we find Wednesday back at Nevermore Academy where she encounters new challenges and obstacles. As per the show’s tagline, “This season, Wednesday Addams returns to explore the spooky corridors of Nevermore Academy, where fresh enemies and complications await her. This time around, Wednesday must juggle family, friendships, and old rivals while navigating another year of mysterious, dark, and quirky chaos. Equipped with her signature sharp humor and dry sarcasm, Wednesday faces a new supernatural mystery to solve.

Starting now, you can stream the first four episodes of Season 2 for the show “Wednesday” on Netflix. The remaining four episodes will be released next month.
