It turned out that the barista character, played by Hunter Doohan, was actually a monstrous version of Hyde. The finale showed him being transported in an armored vehicle while undergoing a transformation, suggesting an impending escape and potential rampage. However, the second season of “Wednesday” changes this ending, revealing that Tyler’s fate was different from what was implied at the end of the first season.
Warning: Spoilers below for Wednesday Season 2, Part 1
In the second season of “Wednesday,” we’re introduced to Willow Hill Psychiatric Hospital, a unique institution dedicated to providing psychiatric care for troubled individuals labeled as Outcasts. Among its most formidable patients is Tyler, who is housed in a maximum-security cell, previously used for a schizophrenic werewolf. Due to his immense power, he’s kept perpetually chained and wears a collar capable of administering powerful electric shocks at a distance. This is all under the watchful eyes of guards and cameras. Yet, despite these stringent precautions, Dr. Fairburn (played by Thandiwe Newton), the hospital’s head psychiatrist, acknowledges that no significant progress has been made in Tyler’s rehabilitation. In light of this, she agrees to let Wednesday (Jenna Ortega) visit him, hoping an interaction could lead to a therapeutic breakthrough.
On Wednesdays, Tyler is paid a visit in hopes of drawing out information about the murder of ex-Sheriff Galvin (Jamie McShane). However, when Tyler fails to provide any valuable insights, he is taunted by Wednesday, triggering a change into his alter ego. The guards are forced to intervene with electric shocks to halt this transformation. As Wednesday departs from the cell, Tyler simmers with intense anger towards Wednesday and recalls the scars inflicted during his battle with Enid (Emma Myers). He vows a chilling revenge: escape, kill Enid for her part in his injuries, and then exact his ultimate revenge on Wednesday.
Noticing that the visit served only to escalate Tyler’s aggressive behavior, Dr. Fairburn faces a critical juncture. She orchestrates Marilyn Thornhill (played by Christina Ricci) to be moved from prison to Willow Hill, reasoning that the close proximity between the Hyde and his previous master could potentially reveal insights into his psyche. This decision unwittingly sets the stage for the release of the Hyde.
How Does Tyler Escape in Wednesday Season 2?
As a dedicated cinephile, I can’t help but delve deep into the captivating plot of this show. In my role as an armchair detective, I find myself engrossed in Wednesday’s pursuit of solving Galvin’s murder. Along the way, I’m thrilled to see her turn to her Uncle Fester (Fred Armisen) for assistance. Together, they venture into Willow Hill, a place that holds more secrets than its quaint exterior suggests.
Our duo stumbles upon an intriguing revelation: LOIS, a name linked to the case, is not a person but an acronym for the Long-Term Outcast Integration Study. Beneath Willow Hill lies a clandestine lab where Outcasts have been held captive for years, serving as unwilling test subjects in horrific experiments designed to mimic their powers for Normies – quite a chilling discovery!
The mastermind behind this sinister project is none other than Augustus Stonehurst, a former science teacher from Nevermore. His twisted ambition reached new heights when he transformed his own daughter, Judi (Heather Matarazzo), into an Avian with the power to control birds. Tragically, Augustus’ relentless pursuit of telekinesis shattered his mind, leaving Judi to run the entire operation while posing as Willow Hill’s administrator. Quite a turn of events, wouldn’t you say?
Upon finding the LOIS lab and revealing Judi’s identity, Wednesday and Fester intentionally overloaded the facility’s power system to cause a commotion during their escape. This power surge inadvertently opened every cell door, liberating all prisoners and causing Judi to run away. The ensuing chaos gave Marilyn Thornhill a chance to slip into Tyler’s cell and break his restraints. However, her actions had unforeseen consequences, as Tyler, who held a longstanding grudge against her for manipulating him, turned into Hyde upon release and mercilessly murdered Judi.
In the chaos, Tyler confronted Wednesday brutally shoving her into a window, causing her to bleed on the sidewalk. However, as the police arrived with heavy weaponry, he was forced to flee before completing his actions. Despite this, he managed to escape, leaving Wednesday injured and setting himself up to carry out his threat to kill Enid. This could potentially mean that Wednesday’s investigation has put her roommate in a dire situation.
On Netflix, you can now stream the first half of Season 2 for the series titled “Wednesday” – the second part will be released on September 3, 2025.
