Wednesday Star Reveals Dream Cousin Itt Casting (& It Could Actually Happen)

Okay, so Season 2 of Wednesday really threw me for a loop – in a good way! It wasn’t just about Wednesday anymore; the show smartly broadened things to include way more of the Addams Family. We’re talking Gomez, Morticia, Pugsley, even Uncle Fester, becoming real, consistent parts of the story. They even gave Thing a surprisingly touching backstory! But the Addams universe is huge, and everyone’s been buzzing about one character in particular. I’m hearing a lot of excitement about the possibility of seeing Cousin Itt finally make an appearance next season, and honestly, I’m right there with them – that would be amazing!

Many fans believe a Cousin Itt character would be a great fit for the third season of Wednesday. One of the show’s actors has hinted at who they think should play the role, and suggests it’s a possibility!

Netflix recently hosted an event to promote its shows to awards voters. During an interview with Variety, Catherine Zeta-Jones revealed who she’d like to see play Cousin Itt if Wednesday were to cast the character: Danny DeVito.

Catherine Zeta-Jones expressed surprise that Danny DeVito hadn’t been cast in the show “Wednesday.” She mentioned jokingly asking him why he wasn’t in it when they celebrated their birthdays together in September.

Catherine Zeta-Jones and her husband, Michael Douglas (known for his role in Ant-Man), both celebrate their birthdays on September 25th. Because Danny DeVito and Michael Douglas are longtime friends, it was natural for DeVito to be part of the couple’s celebration. It seems Catherine Zeta-Jones also felt DeVito would be a perfect fit for the cast of Wednesday.

“Imagine Danny DeVito as Cousin It?” Zeta-Jones added. “That’d be so cool.”

Given Catherine Zeta-Jones and Danny DeVito’s existing relationship, plus DeVito’s successful career – including collaborations with Tim Burton – this casting choice feels realistic, not just something fans are hoping for.

Wednesday Season 3 Is On the Way

Fans were thrilled when Netflix announced a third season of Wednesday back in July. The second season ended with major discoveries about the Addams Family and a dramatic cliffhanger, leaving Wednesday on a mission to help her friend Enid (Emma Myers). Many worried the show wouldn’t continue after such a tense ending, but despite some criticism, Wednesday remains incredibly popular on Netflix, making the renewal a welcome decision.

Bringing Cousin Itt into Season 3 of Wednesday feels like a natural fit. However, casting Danny DeVito would be an unexpected choice, and a departure from how most fans remember the character. In the 1990s films, Cousin Itt was presented as a fluffy, squeaky figure whose language only a few understood – a quirky and endearing character. DeVito’s take on Itt would likely be very different in tone and style.

Tim Burton’s new take on the Addams Family has been different enough to surprise some longtime fans, and while Jenna Ortega is perfectly cast as Wednesday, it’s taken a little getting used to seeing actors like Luis Guzmán as Gomez and Fred Armisen as Fester. But if the series could incorporate a musical performance from Snoop Dogg as Cousin Itt (as they did in Addams Family 2), they can certainly embrace Danny DeVito’s hilarious performance as the same character. DeVito has a history of stealing scenes, from his iconic role as The Penguin in Tim Burton’s Batman Returns to his memorable work on It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, proving he’s a master of comedic timing.

Wednesday Season 3 is in development at Netflix. The other seasons are streaming.
