Hey there, fellow Overwatch enthusiast! I’m super pumped because Season 18 of Overwatch 2 is just around the corner, and Blizzard has some major upgrades coming for our Perks system. Remember when Perks first dropped in Season 15? It was a massive gameplay overhaul since the launch of the sequel, all aimed at offering us fresh strategies while keeping the core fundamentals solid. Can’t wait to dive back in and try out these new tweaks!
The system has been positively welcomed, and we’ve been accumulating user feedback. In the upcoming Season 18, every Hero will receive a new Perk, and certain older ones may be altered or refined. The update lands on August 26.
How the Perks System Works
Enhancement Perks offer modest yet beneficial advantages, focusing on augmenting particular skills or gameplay styles. Significant Perks exert a more substantial influence, frequently altering how an ability operates or shaping the course of the entire game. When reevaluating Perks, Blizzard carefully examines popularity, success rates, and player feedback to ensure that the system remains balanced and enjoyable.
Hero-Specific Changes
When it comes to Juno’s setup, Juno’s Pulsar Torpedo perks, particularly Locked On (Major) and Familiar Vitals (Minor), were commonly used as the default combination. To provide more selection options, we’ve shifted Locked On from the Major slot to the Minor slot, where it will now compete with Familiar Vitals. Players need to decide between quicker targeting or shorter cooldowns.
Juno also gets a brand new perk called Faster Blaster (Major), which allows her Mediblaster to fire automatically while using Glide Boost, providing an option for players who prefer mobility-focused firepower.
Hanzo’s Storm Arrow specialty, previously classified as a minor trait, is being promoted to a major status in Season 18. Upon the first bounce, this modification will cause the arrows to split into five separate shots, each inflicting 33% of the standard damage. With precise aim, these arrows can combine for a total damage output of up to 166%.
The significant advantage that enhances Ana’s Ultimate (Ultimate Booster) is being taken away for balance purposes. Instead, Biotic Bounce gets upgraded to a Major slot with additional benefits, while Ana acquires a new Minor Perk called Speed Serum. This perk will bestow Ana and her Nano Boost recipient with a 40% speed boost.
New Overwatch 2 Season 18 Perks
The main advantage of the Sojourn’s Friction Generators perk is that it allows Power Slide to produce up to 50 units of Railgun energy. This gives you the option to enter combat fully loaded or utilize the energy for an escape. In simpler terms, this feature empowers Power Slide to either charge up your weapon before battle or use it as a getaway tool.
The latest innovation from Venture, the SMART Extender, effectively doubles the reach of their projectiles. This means that even distant foes can be eliminated without interrupting the protection provided by Explorer’s Resolve shields.
Looking Ahead
The upcoming Season 18 update for Overwatch 2 is designed to ensure that each decision matters significantly. By introducing novel choices for each character, players should anticipate innovative tactics and more rapid gameplay once the update goes live on August 26.
