This summer, the intriguing mystery title, Destination X, captivated viewers and gamers alike by whisking them through an exhilarating journey spanning various European locales, yet leaving everyone guessing about their actual location!
The concept is intriguing and innovative, centering around a group of competitors on a bus with no windows, who receive hints and clues to help them figure out their location, or are sometimes deceived to keep the game mysterious at first.
In an exciting turn of events, as the format has already gained popularity in Belgium and made its mark in the United States, it’s now Britain’s turn to experience a new thrilling series tailored for their entertainment delight.
As a devoted fan, I must say that one captivating aspect of this extraordinary series lies in its immersive exploration of various European landscapes. The characters are magically whisked from place to place by the X-bus or trains, as evidenced in episode 3, making each new destination feel like a thrilling adventure.
The series has been endorsed by BAFTA Albert, an influential body promoting eco-friendly practices in film and television production. As Executive Producer David Clews noted, the team behind this show consistently kept the environmental footprint in mind throughout production.

He mentioned that they are constantly brainstorming ways to minimize environmental harm and implementing strategies that give us confidence in our Carbon Action Plan. In other words, he was emphasizing the many steps they took to earn that certification.
Opting for a bus ride is indeed an eco-friendly mode of transportation, as indicated by Roberts Travel Group’s findings. A single bus filled with travelers could potentially replace as many as 50 individual vehicles on the road, thus reducing carbon emissions drastically, making each passenger’s journey more environmentally friendly.
At Destination X, we utilized diesel generators on-site and a system that shared power and batteries. This setup made the production entirely dependent on these generators for power supply.
The team was fully aware that the size of this show necessitated a substantial crew traveling across the country. As Clews pointed out, they typically chose larger vehicles like 16-seater minibuses and even some nine-seaters for transporting the crew.
As a self-proclaimed film enthusiast, I’d put it this way: “During our production planning, we made sure to prioritize lower carbon footprints. So, instead of relying on individual cars for travel, we opted for coaches, knowing full well that they emit less per passenger compared to car travel.
What is the arrangement of personnel throughout the series, specifically regarding the number of individuals required versus the number of office positions available for production roles? Is it feasible to retain personnel within the UK from a strategic standpoint?”
This paraphrase maintains the original meaning while using simpler and more natural language.
In simpler terms, a notice asking all staff members to consider ways to make their work more eco-friendly or environmentally conscious was also issued.

Remarkably, the secretive methods used by the show to keep the locations of the contestants confidential significantly contributed to the long-term effectiveness and smooth running of its production process.
Moving forward, it appears that there might not be another season of Destination X in the works. However, the production of eco-friendly television content is on the rise. Notably, BAFTA albert has been collaborating with various clients from BBC, ITV, Channel 4, and streaming platforms like Netflix.
In 2023, a total of 3,003 film productions calculated their carbon footprints, and 2,451 of these received certification. Additionally, 3,967 industry professionals participated in albert training. Furthermore, albert partnered with the ITV soap Emmerdale to aid in the show’s journey towards achieving net-zero production status.
Destination X continues on Thursday 7th August at 9pm on BBC One and iPlayer.
