Nadya Suleman and her family are reclaiming their legacy.
49-year-old Nadya Suleman, commonly known as Octomom due to her historic birth of octuplets in 2009, explains the reasoning behind her and her 14 children’s decision to share their story in an upcoming Lifetime docuseries that follows their lives.
Nadya shared in an interview with People, published on January 24th, that she felt compelled to share her personal experience for a specific purpose: “I want to assist others,” she said, “especially women who may be facing challenges related to motherhood or childlessness. I hope my story might encourage them to discover inner strengths they didn’t know they possessed, enabling them to continue growing and moving forward in their lives.
She added, “Today, my family and I are taking our life back.”
After stepping away from public view for many years, Nadya is now eager to discard the persona that the world created for her based on her unusual experiences with notoriety.
“I’m not this compartmentalized caricature,” she continued. “I am not Octomom, I’m a mom.”
Back in 2009, I found myself making history as a mother of six, who later became the first woman to safely deliver a set of surviving octuplets following In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) treatment. What an incredible journey!
Currently, she along with her teenagers Noah, Josiah, Nariyah, Maliyah, Jonah, Jeremiah, Isaiah, and Makai are clarifying the true nature of their daily existence.
Nadya, mother of Ameerah, Calyssa, Elijah, Caleb, Joshua, and Aidan, shared with People that this will be the first time her children are sharing together. Surprisingly, her older kids were initially hesitant to appear in public, something they had not wanted before. In truth, Nadya herself was not keen on speaking out either.
She stated, “I’ve consistently emphasized that it’s important for me to ensure their safety and safeguard my children. As it happens, they are approaching their sixteenth birthday, which means they are now old enough to make their own decisions about this significant matter.
