We’ve Finally Figured Out Godzilla’s New Monsterverse Rival

The new series Monarch: Legacy of Monsters has revealed a frightening Titan that could rival Godzilla in power. While the Monsterverse already features many powerful Titans, this newest creature – currently called “Titan X” – might be the most terrifying yet. Titan X can travel on both land and in the water, but it seems to prefer the ocean. After being unleashed at the end of the first episode of Monarch Season 2, Titan X is now dangerously close to important shipping routes.

We’re slowly uncovering more details about Titan X, both in current scenes and through flashbacks to 1957. Its design clearly takes inspiration from Biollante, a monster from the 1989 film Godzilla vs. Biollante, but that’s where the resemblance stops. It seems the overall look of the Monsterverse creatures has simply influenced the designers, rather than this being a version of Biollante. However, we believe we’ve discovered the true identity of Godzilla’s new opponent.

We Think Titan X Is Based on the Legends of the Kraken

As a huge fan of the Monsterverse, I’ve been following the clues about Titan X, and everything points to it being their take on the legendary Kraken! You know, the massive sea monster from those old Norse stories? The filmmakers have hinted at a ‘Kraken’ connection with other Titans before, just because they hang out in the water. But with Titan X, it really fits. It’s not just a water creature; the details are perfect. Even the colder waters where it’s been spotted match the Kraken’s origins in Scandinavian mythology. It’s like they’re building a creature that actually follows the legends, even migrating with the ocean temperatures – it’s a really cool touch!

The second season of Monarch implies that Titan X has been observed for about 200 years, aligning with historical accounts of the Kraken from the 1700s and 1800s. The creature seems to use its massive tentacles – equipped with sharp, gripping edges – to capture prey and pull it underwater. This behavior is consistent with what trailers for Monarch Season 2 have shown, depicting Titan X doing the same thing to modern ships.

The opening credits of Monarch Season 2 provide another hint about the Kraken. They feature a newspaper article about a Pacific Ocean island that disappeared, leading viewers to first think of Kong’s Skull Island. However, there are stories of the Kraken appearing as an island before sinking into the ocean, creating a whirlpool. This whirlpool could be a dangerous gateway to the Hollow Earth or the Axis Mundi.

Stories say the Kraken affected the ocean around it, attracting huge schools of fish because of the extra nutrients. This detail fits with scenes from 1957 near Santa Soledad. More recent versions of the Kraken often suggest it lives with swarms of parasitic creatures, which also connects to the world of Monarch – it could explain the scarabs and other small monsters the Kraken seems to guard.

What Exactly are the Scarabs?

This leads us to the scarabs themselves. They seem connected to ancient Egyptian stories about blood scarabs – creatures attracted to blood. These scarabs came to life after a blood sacrifice in 1957 and are clearly hunting people aboard the Monarch ship. According to Egyptian myths, blood scarabs reproduced inside corpses, which is worrying considering Monarch hasn’t found the doctor killed by the scarab before it encountered Cate.

The scarabs and Titan X have a helpful relationship with each other. Titan X provides nutrients that attract fish, which the scarabs eat. In return, Titan X fiercely protects the scarabs, as seen when it defended Cate. Both creatures communicate using sound waves in the water, which explains the vibrations Keiko experienced in 1957 and how the scarab that attacked Cate signaled for help.

Why Did Titan X Leave the Earth?

So, the big question hanging over me after seeing this is: if Titan X was roaming the seas back in the 1950s, what happened to it? The film seems to suggest it simply stopped migrating, eventually becoming dormant. That actually explains why people thought it was an island – remember that old newspaper clipping in the opening credits? Something clearly disturbed it later on, opening up a nasty portal, and it ended up at the Axis Mundi, where it’s been sleeping for decades… until Cate woke it up, of course.

The most probable reason Titan X has disappeared is the warming of the oceans due to climate change. This creature seems to prefer colder water, and rising temperatures likely threw off its usual migration path, potentially making most of the world’s oceans unsuitable for it. If this is true, Titan X is now searching for cooler waters, and that search could cause significant problems wherever it goes.
