The team behind the new Marvel series, Wonder Man, recently shared that they originally planned a different conclusion for the show. Wonder Man is the 17th television series in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and it follows the stories of two actors – Simon Williams, played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, and Ben Kingsley as Trevor Slattery – as they pursue career-defining roles.
Destin Daniel Cretton and Andrew Guest reveal that Wonder Man had an alternate ending
In a recent Entertainment Weekly interview, creators Creton and Guest talked about the finale of Wonder Man. Creton explained that the emotional core of the ending was always intended, while Guest revealed they had initially considered a different conclusion: a performance in a small theater where the characters levitated.
Guest explained that the story always had to end with the two main characters finally prioritizing someone else over themselves. The screenwriter added that both Simon and Trevor needed to learn this lesson, and it’s meant to be satisfying to see them do so out of genuine love for each other.
When asked about the performance they’d been preparing for at the black box theater, Guest recalled it being “Hamlet or something.” He quickly clarified that it was actually a play written by Trevor, explaining that the initial draft wasn’t very strong, but Simon helped improve it significantly.
Creton then explained further, saying, “The idea was that Trevor would vanish, then find an outlet through writing and stage a play. That would have been a really interesting direction to take.”
Notably, in the show’s current ending, Simon breaks Trevor out of prison, and they escape together.
Wonder Man began streaming on Disney+ on January 27, 2026, with all eight episodes available to watch now.
