Here’s a breakdown of what’s happened with Soldier Boy in both The Boys and the spin-off series Gen V so far.
What happened to Soldier Boy in The Boys season 3?

Benjamin, known as Soldier Boy, appeared in season 3 of The Boys. He’s often called America’s first superhero, and gained his powers during World War II when he was a soldier and part of an experiment involving Compound V.
He eventually led Payback, a group of superheroes that included Crimson Countess, Gunpowder, Swatto, Mindstorm, Black Noir, and the TNT Twins. Despite being on the same team, they all disliked each other, and Vought decided it was time to force Soldier Boy into retirement.
Okay, so the film throws you right into the action – this guy gets completely ambushed by a team, but surprisingly, they don’t finish him off. Instead of killing him, they hand him over to the Russians, who then decide he’s more valuable alive… for experiments. It’s a really unsettling turn, and ultimately, they put him into some kind of medically induced coma, keeping him alive but completely controlled. It’s a disturbing sequence, and sets a really bleak tone for what’s to come.
So, picture this: The Boys are on a job in Russia and stumble upon this guy, basically frozen in time. They thaw him out, and it quickly becomes apparent things didn’t go as planned during his… extended nap. He’s developed some seriously unstable powers – whenever he gets stressed or emotional, he starts radiating explosive energy. Naturally, he doesn’t stick around to chat and makes a run for it, eventually ending up here in the States. It’s a pretty wild setup, and immediately raises the stakes.
While there, he began a violent rampage, seeking revenge on the members of Payback who had betrayed him. He struck a deal with the Boys: they would provide him with information and guide him to the Payback members, and in return, he would kill Homelander.
Okay, so things got really messy at Herogasm. Homelander showed up and a huge brawl broke out between him, Soldier Boy, and Butcher – Butcher had taken some of that Temp V, which definitely leveled the playing field. Surprisingly, everyone lived through it! But the biggest shock came later: Soldier Boy discovered Homelander is actually his biological son. Turns out Homelander was created in a lab using Soldier Boy’s… well, let’s just say Dr. Vogelbaum was experimenting with his genetic material. It’s a seriously twisted family dynamic, and it completely changes how you look at both characters.
A tense showdown happened at Vought Tower, with Soldier Boy criticizing Homelander and expressing his disapproval of how Homelander was raising his son, calling him weak.
During the fight between Soldier Boy and Homelander, Homelander’s son, Ryan, intervened to try and stop Soldier Boy. Butcher, wanting to protect Ryan, broke their agreement and, along with the rest of The Boys, attempted to contain Soldier Boy’s destructive outburst. As Soldier Boy began to unleash a nuclear blast, Queen Maeve, who was fighting alongside The Boys, tackled him, and they both crashed out of a window of Vought Tower. An explosion followed, and it appeared they both perished.
Surprisingly, both Maeve and Soldier Boy lived. Maeve lost her superpowers – a common side effect of Soldier Boy’s radiation – and went into hiding, with only The Boys knowing she was still alive. Soldier Boy himself was found and put back into a medically induced coma, then secured for containment.
What happened to Soldier Boy in Gen V season 1?

After playing Soldier Boy in season 3 of The Boys, Jensen Ackles appeared briefly in the first season of the spin-off, Gen V. This appearance happened between seasons 3 and 4 of the original series.
This time, Ackles wasn’t playing the actual Soldier character. He was portraying a version of Soldier created within Cate Dunlap’s mind, and Marie, Andre, and Jordan encountered him after being drawn into her subconscious.
The scene was shocking and disturbing, but ultimately didn’t move the plot forward for Soldier Boy.
What happened to Soldier Boy in The Boys season 4 and is he back for season 5?

Soldier Boy had a quick appearance in The Boys season 4, showing up only in a short scene after the credits finished rolling in the finale.
President Calhoun led Homelander to Soldier Boy’s hidden body, unexpectedly revealing that his father was still alive.
As seen in the trailer for The Boys season 5, Soldier Boy will return after being awakened from a medically induced coma.
The character will also star in a new prequel series called Vought Rising, alongside Aya Cash, who plays Stormfront.
