Is the Ramses and the Pharaoh’s Gold Exhibition worth it? Our honest thoughts

I’ve seen quite a few immersive exhibits, and Ramses and the Pharaoh’s Gold is truly impressive. I initially worried it would be like others – relying on visuals and sound instead of real artifacts – when it started with a CGI video about Ramses II’s life. But I was happily proven wrong! It was full of unexpected treasures and genuinely stood out.

The exhibition features authentic objects dating back 3,000 years, including jewelry, pottery, coffins, and even mummified cats. The displays offer a detailed look at the ancient world, explaining the significance of symbols and materials – for example, they believed the gods had golden skin – and providing a clear understanding of the life and reign of Ramses II.

I was really impressed with how they used lighting and videos – not as the main attraction, but to enhance everything else. There was one room with this incredible immersive film about the Battle of Kadesh, explaining exactly what happened and why it’s still famous. Everything – the artifacts and these cool displays – built up gradually, and it was brilliantly paced. It all led to the moment I’d been waiting for: seeing Ramses II’s actual coffin! They’d hinted at it throughout the whole exhibit, so when I finally turned the corner and saw it, it felt like a really powerful and satisfying way to finish the experience.

I especially wish there had been more detail about how the sarcophagus and other Egyptian treasures were discovered. Learning about the archaeological digs and preservation methods would have made the experience even better. Still, it was a very exciting exhibit and a wonderful experience for anyone interested in ancient Egypt.
