What Joseph Duggar Told Wife Kendra in Jail Phone Call After Arrest

Joseph Duggar exchanged words with his wife Kendra Duggar while behind bars.

Following his arrest on March 18th in Arkansas for allegedly harming a 9-year-old girl during a 2020 trip to Florida, the former star of 19 Kids and Counting contacted his wife, Kendra, from jail to explain his circumstances while being held in solitary confinement.

In a recording published by People magazine, Joseph shared with his wife that he’s been reading the Bible a lot since receiving one while incarcerated. He explained he’s in solitary confinement, spending 23 hours a day in a small cell – about 8 by 10 feet in size.

I’ve had some time to read and rest, but I haven’t been sleeping very well lately, honestly.

Kendra, 27, appeared to be sympathetic to Joseph’s situation, telling him, “Aww.”

“It’s nice to hear from you too,” she said, responding to her husband, Joseph – the father of her four children – who had just told her it was good to hear her voice.

The call happened at 8:11 p.m., shortly after Kendra was released from jail. She had been arrested earlier on charges of endangering a child and falsely imprisoning someone, according to People magazine.

I’ve been following this case closely, and it’s incredibly disturbing. Joseph is currently being held and will soon be sent to Florida to answer to accusations of seriously inappropriate behavior with a child. What’s even more shocking is that he’s now facing the exact same charges as his wife here in Arkansas. It’s a truly awful situation, and I hope justice is served.

Kendra is due in court April 29, according to jail records viewed by TopMob News.

I’ve been following the situation with Joseph Duggar closely, and it’s really upsetting. TopMob tried to get a statement from the family, but they haven’t responded yet. Still, a lot of his relatives have already spoken out publicly, and they clearly disapprove of what he’s accused of doing.

Joy-Anna Duggar, 28, shared a statement on Instagram on March 26th expressing her sadness and shock regarding recent revelations about her brother. She said her thoughts were with the victim and she was deeply saddened by the pain he caused.

Meanwhile, Joseph’s older sister Jill Duggar said she was “shocked and heartbroken.”

On March 19th, the couple wrote on their blog that they believe in upholding the law and hope the situation will result in a just outcome. They expressed deep sympathy for the young victim and her family, stating they are praying for her strength, comfort, and access to the support she needs.

Joseph Duggar’s brother, Jason, said he was very upset by the claims made against his older brother.

We’re heartbroken that a child’s life has been disrupted by someone who committed a terrible act of abuse,” Jim Bob and Maddie Duggar said in an Instagram post on March 26. “This person should have protected this vulnerable child, not harmed them.

On March 19th, we were surprised and deeply saddened to hear about the arrest of Jill’s brother, Joseph Duggar. We only found out through a friend who sent us a text message about news reports claiming he confessed to a crime involving a young girl in 2020. We are shocked and heartbroken by this news.

Derick and Jill, who publicly shared their experiences with the family in the 2023 book Counting the Cost, stated they firmly denounce abuse.

The couple, married this year, expressed their outrage at what they called the shocking behavior of Joseph, his brother.

Jason and Maddie released a statement on Instagram on March 26th, saying they were deeply shocked, confused, and saddened by recent events. While they acknowledged their own distress, they emphasized their heartbreak for the child whose life has been devastated by the actions of someone who should have protected them. They expressed disgust at the news regarding their brother, but focused on the impact to the vulnerable child.

Maddie and I have always cared deeply about protecting those who are vulnerable, and that will never change,” their message continued. “It’s awful to think someone would use their power to harass innocent people.

People requested prayers for the victim, describing them as courageous, and also for Joseph’s family. They expressed sadness that his children would now grow up without the guidance of a father who should have been a strong spiritual influence in their lives.

Josh is deeply aware of the damage that accusations can cause, his lawyer told the Daily Mail on March 20th. He personally understands how false claims can ruin someone’s life and how someone can be unfairly targeted for attention, leading to distorted and exaggerated stories.

The lawyer stated that Josh, who is currently in prison for 12 years for possessing child pornography, doesn’t often communicate with his brother, Joseph, but wishes him well during this challenging period.

Joy-Anna shared on Instagram on March 26th that she was devastated by the recent news about her brother. She expressed her sympathy for the victim and said she’s been deeply upset and taking time to cope with the situation.

She added, “I will be taking some much-needed time with my family.”

On the March 25th episode of The Jinger & Jeremy Podcast, Jeremy shared that they had a challenging week trying to understand and come to terms with something, and they had been praying about it as they prepared the podcast.

Jinger, who relocated to Los Angeles with Jeremy in 2019, shared that she was deeply heartbroken this week. She described the pain and sadness as overwhelming, not only for herself but also considering the impact on others, calling it incredibly difficult and painful in many ways.

“It’s incredibly difficult,” she said. “In times like these, all you can do is pray for strength and support, because you can’t possibly prepare for news like this.”

As a close cousin of Joseph’s, I was absolutely devastated to hear the news. Honestly, I’m still reeling – sickened, heartbroken, and just filled with anger. My heart immediately goes out to the young victim, a child who deserved so much better – a safe, loving environment and people she could always rely on. It’s just…unthinkable.

Amy explained she was “utterly shocked to hear about these allegations and Joseph’s arrest.”

I’ve always believed in honesty, taking responsibility for your actions, and keeping children safe, even if that meant disagreeing with my own family. Protecting children is so important that family relationships shouldn’t automatically guarantee trust or access.
