I’m so excited for the Super Bowl! Not just the game between the Patriots and Seahawks, but also all the movie trailers! It’s become a tradition, really – Hollywood always uses the Super Bowl to give everyone a first look at the biggest films coming out, and with over 100 million people watching, it’s the perfect way to get the word out about their 2026 releases.
The tradition continues with Super Bowl LX, where we’ll likely see previews of some of 2026’s biggest movies – even though ad space during the game is very expensive. However, not every movie studio or creator wants to participate in the massive amount of advertising during the Super Bowl.
As a total movie fanatic, I’ve been following the trends, and it looks like we’re very likely to see trailers for some big 2026 movies during the Super Bowl. They could drop during commercial breaks, before or after the game, or even online a few days beforehand – basically around February 8th. Years of looking at release patterns suggest this is when studios are planning to make a splash!
Minions 3
Universal and Illumination will likely advertise Minions 3 during the Super Bowl. Universal consistently uses the Super Bowl for marketing, and Illumination always tries to include the Despicable Me series in the broadcast. Previous installments like Minions, Despicable Me 4, and Minions: The Rise of Gru have all been featured in entertaining TV commercials during past Super Bowls.
I was hoping for something comparable to, or even a bit better than, the previous Minions movies. While the full marketing hasn’t started yet, releasing a short preview showing the title and a glimpse of the Minions would be a great way to build excitement for the July 1st release.
Disclosure Day
Looking at Universal Pictures, I also expect to see something for Steven Spielberg’s upcoming film, Disclosure Day. Spielberg hasn’t advertised a movie during the Super Bowl since War of the Worlds in 2005. However, Universal is clearly trying to generate buzz with a launch event in Times Square and a compelling trailer, suggesting they’ll be promoting it heavily during the game.
Showing even a short clip from Disclosure Day during the Super Bowl would be a great way to build excitement. If the clip is as captivating as the initial teaser, Universal could successfully establish Steven Spielberg’s new sci-fi film as a must-see event when it’s released in theaters on June 12th.
Scream 7
Paramount Pictures frequently advertises during the Super Bowl, and that likely means we’ll see a new trailer for Scream 7. The first trailer came out three months ago, and with the movie releasing shortly after the Super Bowl, now is a good time to get more people excited about it.
Adding to the anticipation, Scream VI had a trailer during the Super Bowl three years ago, so we can expect to see the iconic Ghostface imagery again. There’s also a possibility Paramount will release a first look at Scary Movie 6 as well, capitalizing on the trend of satirizing current horror films and franchises.
Avengers: Doomsday
Marvel Studios consistently participates in major events like San Diego Comic-Con and the Super Bowl. They’ve been present at these gatherings every year since 2010, and with the release of Avengers: Doomsday coming up on December 18th, they’re expected to continue that tradition.
Four short teasers for Avengers: Doomsday are already available online, but the full trailer might premiere during the Super Bowl, giving fans a clearer idea of the plot and finally revealing Robert Downey Jr.’s role as Doctor Doom. Unless, of course, Marvel decides to use the Super Bowl spot for its other 2026 film, Spider-Man: Brand New Day—we’ll discuss that movie later.
The Mandalorian & Grogu
Lucasfilm hasn’t typically focused on Star Wars during the Super Bowl, but with The Mandalorian and Grogu movie coming up, that should change. Disney really needs this film to be a big hit and build excitement among fans before it comes out on May 22nd. Releasing a captivating trailer for the first Star Wars movie in seven years would be a great way to achieve that.
If it happens, The Mandalorian and Grogu’s movie will be the first in the Star Wars franchise to advertise during the Super Bowl since Solo: A Star Wars Story. The Mandalorian season 3 also had a Super Bowl ad in 2023, so this wouldn’t be the first time Din Djarin and Grogu have been featured during the game.
Toy Story 5
Disney typically advertises its films during the Super Bowl, but Pixar usually doesn’t. So, I don’t anticipate a commercial for Hoppers (releasing March 6th). However, Toy Story 5 is likely big enough to change that, as Toy Story 4 had a Super Bowl trailer in 2019 and went on to earn over $1 billion.
With Woody and Buzz Lightyear reunited, Disney and Pixar have a great opportunity to really boost excitement and reach a wider audience through a strong marketing campaign.
Street Fighter
Paramount might also use the Super Bowl to promote their upcoming movie, Street Fighter. They’ve already started building excitement with a first look at the film during The Game Awards last December, and showing more footage now could help ensure a strong opening when it hits theaters on October 16th.
Matchbox
I’m really hoping Apple Studios surprises us during the Big Game again! Last year’s sneak peek at the F1 movie was amazing, and considering how popular that film turned out to be, it makes sense they’d want to do the same for their next racing movie, Matchbox. I’m keeping my fingers crossed!
The new movie based on the Mattel toy line stars John Cena and is scheduled to come out this fall, initially only in theaters. Because the Fast & Furious franchise won’t be advertising this year, Matchbox has a good opportunity to stand out and potentially launch a new series of films.
The Odyssey (Maybe?)

Considering Universal’s past pattern of releasing multiple trailers during the Super Bowl – they’ve done so in five out of the last six years – it’s highly probable they’ll share a trailer for another film alongside those for Disclosure Day and Minions 3. The Odyssey, being a major upcoming summer release scheduled for July 17th, seems like a perfect candidate for a Super Bowl spot.
The real key to this situation is the director. Christopher Nolan hasn’t shown a movie trailer during the Super Bowl since his 2005 film, Batman Begins. While Warner Bros., his previous studio partner, generally avoids the event, Universal Pictures also chose not to feature a trailer for his 2023 film, Oppenheimer.
Christopher Nolan’s films often follow unusual marketing strategies, differing from standard Hollywood practices. However, for his new film, The Odyssey, both Nolan and Universal have gone to great lengths to generate buzz – even selling tickets a year early and showing a six-minute preview only in cinemas. They might further break with tradition by releasing a commercial during the Super Bowl.
What About Spider-Man: Brand New Day?
A major question surrounding the Super Bowl 2026 trailers is if we’ll finally get a first look at the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day movie. Sony has been developing the film for a while – early details actually appeared online last December, but the studio quickly removed them. Most fans believe Sony is planning to reveal the first teaser during the Super Bowl.
Generally, Sony doesn’t often advertise at this event. They last paid for ad space in 2023 to promote the movie 65 starring Adam Driver. Before that, they advertised in 2017 for the film Life, which featured Jake Gyllenhaal and Ryan Reynolds. Interestingly, Sony chose to promote Life instead of Spider-Man: Homecoming that year.
Sony has never debuted a Spider-Man trailer during the Super Bowl. There’s a chance that could change in 2026, but it seems unlikely. If they do release one, a trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day would be a welcome surprise.
