Scorsese confirms his next film….

At 83 years old, Martin Scorsese doesn’t have unlimited films left to make, so there’s a lot of interest in his upcoming projects. He’s been linked to several ideas, including a film about Frank Sinatra, a mob story set in Hawaii, and a movie about Jesus based on the same author’s work as his 2016 film, ‘Silence’. Now, it’s official: his next project will be ‘What Happens at Night’. Here’s what we know about it.

Here’s what we know about What Happens at Night …

  • The story is about a married American couple who visit a snowy European town to adopt. At their eerie hotel, they meet odd characters – a chanteuse, businessman, and faith healer. Reality blurs as they pursue the baby and question their lives.
  • The film will star Leonardo DiCaprio and is the seventh time Scorsese and DiCaprio have worked together on a film following “Gangs of New York,” “The Aviator,” “The Departed,” “Shutter Island,” “The Wolf of Wall Street” and “Killers of the Flower Moon”
  • Jennifer Lawrence co-stars in the film and will be her first film with Scorsese. Mads Mikkelson  is also confirmed to have been cast with other cast members to be announced.
  • The film is based on the book by Peter Cameran and has been adapted for the screen by Patrick Marber ( a fantastic British writer who has appeared in the TV series ‘I’m Alan Partridge’) and was nominated for an Oscar for his script for the 2007 film, ‘Notes on a Scandal’
  • Shooting begins in January 2026 with Oscar-nominated cinematographer Rodrigo Prieto also attached to the project.
  • What Happens at Night is aiming for a September 2027 release which is when the awards season begins
  • Apple Original Films in negotiations to produce.
